The Lid Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It ensures that the washer lid is securely locked during operation, preventing it from being opened mid-cycle, which could cause water spills and interrupt the washing process. This component plays a vital role in the safety and functionality of the washing machine by ensuring that the lid remains closed during washing and spinning cycles.

Causes of a bad lid latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, electrical failures, or physical damage from forcefully opening or closing the lid. When the lid latch assembly is faulty, it can affect the washer's ability to start or complete a cycle properly.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Latch Assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to lid lock issues
  • The lid not locking or unlocking properly
  • The washer pausing unexpectedly during operation

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Ross, You could put the unit into a diagnostic mode and see if there are any stored error codes. This can be done by accessing the tech sheet located in the control panel. Also on the tech sheet it will tell you how to test the lid lock assembly.

Shawn, You will want to test the lid lock at the main control board and you will check the following contacts. From connector J15 lock switch solenoid pin 1 to pin 3 should be between 85 to 155 ohms. Lock switch J15 pin 3 to pin 4, locked will be 0 ohms, unlocked open circuit. Lid switch J15 pin 3 to pin 2, lid closed 0 ohms and lid open Open circuit.

Doris for Model Number MVWX600XW0

Hi, I have replaced the lid switch lock on my Maytag Bravos Washer because it would not lock. When it still failed to operate properly, I replaced the strike. The machine locks, then unlocks and the red flashing light keeps blinking and blinking. If I hit the start button again all it does is click and the machine will not start. I unplugged the machine several limes and it still refuses to keep locked. What other part do I need to replace. Please help.

Doris, In the control panel there is a tech sheet. You will want to get the tech sheet out and run the unit in diagnostics and see if there are any stored error codes. If there are then this will direct you to the issue. The most likely cause with the lock having already been replaced would be a faulty control board. But check the codes.

Hello Shaketa. It is not likely to be the lid lock. You will need to check the drain pump and see if it is draining the unit. If not, the pump may be bad on the unit. If it does drain, then check the splutch system on the unit. If it is good, check the shift actuator WPW10006355 on the unit.

Hello Andra, You will need to use a test meter to see if voltage is getting to the lid lock. You will need to pull the wiring diagram and use the wiring diagram to follow the voltage. Normally, when you find a component with voltage to it that is not passing it, it is the failed component. The lid lock W10404050 is a common failure and if it is broken, it will most likely be the cause of the complete failure.

Ray This issue sounds like it would be caused by a lid latch assembly. To test the lid lock you will need to access the wiring diagram in the console of the unit and run the Lid lock test on page 9. If the lid lock test fails then you will need to check the lid lock mechanism for obstruction or binding. Repair that as necessary. Unplug the washer remove the console to access the main control board. Visually check that the J15 connector is inserted all the way into the main control. If the visual check passes then remove the connector from J15 main control board. With an ohmmeter, verify the lid lock resistance values across the following J15 connector pins: Lock switch solenoid Resistance should be between 85-155 ohms measured between pins 1 and 3 of J15 connector Lock switch If locked should be 0 ohms resistance and if unlocked should show open circuit measured between the J15 pin 3 to 4. Lid switch Lid closed should read 0 ohms and lid open should show an open circuit from connector J15 pins 3 to 2.
