The Latch is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. It is essential for securing the dishwasher door during operation, ensuring that the door stays closed and the dishwasher can run its cycles effectively. The latch mechanism also engages the door switch, which signals the dishwasher to start its cycle.

Over time, latches can wear out or become damaged due to repeated use, exposure to moisture, or accidental force. A malfunctioning latch can prevent the dishwasher from starting or lead to leaks during operation.

Symptoms of a bad Latch include:

  • Dishwasher door not staying closed
  • Dishwasher not starting
  • Leaks around the door during a wash cycle
  • The door latch feeling loose or not engaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Note: This lock has a White bezel. For the Grey bezel, order W10861642.

Hello Lisa, To clear Fault Codes, enter Service Diagnostic mode. Then press and hold the 3rd button used to enter Service Diagnostic mode for 5 seconds. Once the stored fault codes are successfully erased, the seven segment display will show “888” and a beep will sound. To enter the diagnostic mode: 1. Be sure the washer is in standby mode (plugged in with all indicators off). 2. Select any three (3) buttons (except POWER) and follow the steps below, using the same buttons (remember the buttons and the order that the buttons were pressed): Within 8 seconds, • Press and Release the 1st selected button, • Press and Release the 2nd selected button, • Press and Release the 3rd selected button; • Repeat this 3 button sequence 2 more times. 3. If this test mode has been entered successfully, all indicators on the console will be illuminated for 5 seconds with “888” showing in the three-digit display and a tone will sound. If there are no saved fault codes, the seven segment display will come back on and display “888”. Upon entry to Service Diagnostic mode, all cycles, and options reset to factory default. NOTE: The Service Diagnostic mode will time out after 10 minutes of user inactivity, or shut down if AC power is removed from the washer.

Lisa, For this model you would remove the main top of the unit by removing the screws at the top back of the unit. Once you remove it you would need to remove the screws that hold the control panel in place.

Sorry Ron. We never advise to bypass a manufacturer safety part unless the manufacturer suggest to do so. You will need to replace the lid switch if it is bad. Thank you.
