The Door Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly detects whether the washer door is open or closed, allowing the machine to start or stop the washing cycle accordingly.

Causes of a bad door switch assembly can include wear and tear from frequent use, damage from forceful closing of the door, or electrical issues. A malfunctioning switch can prevent the washer from recognizing a closed door, thus hindering the start of the wash cycle or causing it to stop unexpectedly.

Symptoms of a bad Door Switch Assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes indicating door issues
  • Washer not spinning or agitating
  • Door lock mechanism not engaging or disengaging properly

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Richard, you’ll want to put your unit into diagnostic mode. Before you run a diagnostic test you’ll want to make sure the washer is empty and the control is off. Step 1. Close the door, Step 2. Push “control/on” (if present on this model), Step 3. Select the drain/spin cycle, Step 4. Select the “no spin” by pressing the “spin speed” touch-pad, Step 5. Push “prewash option” four times within five seconds. If prewash option is not present on this model, press “rinse hold” four times within five seconds. C:00 will light up on the display (door should lock if this indication is displayed). If the starting procedure fails, push the pause/cancel touchpad, then repeat the starting procedure. Hope this helps!

Stacey Thi for Model Number whirlpool duet

The door closes on my duet frontload washer and sounds like it locks. The hinge is loose but it still seems to close and lock. The lights turn on but when I press the start button and hold like I usually do to start it it does not click and start to run. I usually push and hold, it clicks and then you hear the water start, now I push and hold and nothing happens but the lights are on. I am thinking it is the door switch. It is an older machine.

Stacey, This issue will either bet that the user interface is not registering the start button or the door lock is bad. It would be recommended to pull the user interface and see if the plastic housing around the board in the front is broken. If it is then this would cause the issue that is occurring.

Hello Al, I'm sorry but if this unit is 220Vac, and since WIVH684CJ1W will not come up as a valid model number in our system, we have to assume this is an import model. I'm sorry but we do not have the ability to pull parts lists on import models. If you can contact an import dealership and get the part numbers you need, we would be happy to run them through our system to see if any are available from our parts suppliers. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Sharon, Yes if the door is not locking then that would be the most likely cause for the issue with the unit.

Hello Anthony, F/dL is a door lock error. The manufacturer says a door lock error occurs if the door cannot be locked. It will try to lock it six times before displaying the error code. ¦ Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door. ¦ Door switch/lock unit failure. 1. Unplug washer or disconnect power. 2. Check door switch/lock unit. 3. Check the wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU).

Hello Sherrie. Check the harness going to the door lock assembly. If it is good, then it sounds like the control board may be failing and causing the lock issues.

Guy, You will want to remove the top panel of the unit. Disconnect power and if you reach down to where the door lock is located there is a little round piece that you would grab and pull down on to release the lock assembly.
