Symptoms of a bad lid switch assembly include:

  • Washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • The machine not draining or spinning
  • Error codes related to lid issues
  • The washer continuing to operate with the lid open

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Hello Brenda, This will be an electronic issue. You will need to verify the model number from the units' I.D. tag so we can look up the correct part to correct the issue. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Hari for Model Number LSR723DQ0 (not sure if it's a zero or an O at the end)

This washing machine fills, agitates and drains (making a weird noise when it's draining) then when it's supposed to spin it doesn't spin. Leaving it running, the timer will advance and it will fill again and agitate again for the rinse cycle drain again but NO SPIN. From what I've read online it's probably the lid switch. Though I've seen that a broken clutch could be the cause also. I'd like to know how to diagnose this problem with certainty before ordering parts. Thank you!

Hello Hari, If the model number is actually LSR7233DQ0, this is most likely the lid switch 285671 but the clutch 285785 is used for spin and not for agitation so it cannot be the issue.

Doityourself for Model Number 11092580100

Kenmore Washer 11092580100 Your recommended Lid Switch Assembly Part Number: 285671 (AP3094500). This does NOT have the small diameter water level hose [Different from the main large dia water level hose in a separate circuit] attached to my washer's original lid switch. It comes through the same opening as the two black wires, there is NO third green\earth wire in this group [Two black wires and the small dia hose] coming from the same orifice in the original switch. Without that small dia hose (unplugged) the washer overflows...! What do you recommend?

1 Answer

Doityourself, Apparently there are several misunderstandings, First, you do have the correct part number 285671 for the lid switch assembly for the model number you supplied. Some versions of this style washer do not have a ground wire(green wire) in the machine harness, but the switch wiring is configured to compensate for the wiring changes across the different versions of machines. There is no air dome hose large or small diameter that attaches to the lid switch assembly. There is only one(1) air dome/ air pressure tube WP353244. It attaches to the air bell on the right rear side of the outer tub, is routed up along the back panel of the washer cabinet, (there is a retainer that will hold the hose in position on the back) The air hose enters the top and console assembly through the gap molded in the right rear area of the top panel, along with the wiring harness to the lower portion of the washer(motor, fill valve, etc.), it then attaches to the round attachment port on the water level switch WP3356467. You do need to make sure the tube is not twisted or kinked, and that is has an air tight seal at the air bell on the side of the tub and at the port on the water level switch. You will need to check and re route the air tube and make sure it enters the top assembly through the gab molded in the top assembly right rear area. and make sure you attach the hose to the water level switch port.

Jill for Model Number LSB6200PQ1

I have a problem with my Whirlpool washer not advancing once it fills. I diagnosed the problem to be the lid switch assembly. I watched the video provided for part number AP094500 (mfg 285671) but it doesn't match my model washer. I think (for my model) the lid switch is located under the top of the washer to the left and is engaged by a lever connected to the lid where it attaches to the machine. I was wondering if anyone else has this model and can you tell me how to access the lid switch to replace it? Will I need to remove the outer frame to gain access? Thanks for your help.

1 Answer

Jill, To remove the lid switch on your unit you will need to lift the control panel and remove the cabinet to access the lid switch. The lid will need to be open when changing the switch.

Kathy for Model Number Kenmore 90 Series Heavy Duty Washer #110.92292800

Recently the washer has stopped after the wash cycle. Sometimes it drains before doing so and sometimes it doesn't--mostly not. I can manually advance it to the rinse cycle but it stops at the end before it starts to drain. If I try to advance it manually to the point where it would drain and then spin, it generally won't work. But, if I keep turning the dial a click at a time and trying each of the different spin cycles--and it might take 20 attempts, I can usually find a setting where it will at least drain and most times also spin. Given that I can still--so far--get a drain and spin to work, does this mean it isn't the lid switch? I am concerned that it might be the timer, which is a much more expensive part. By the way, the only two spin cycles that ever seem to work are extra rinse and permanent press. I know that the washer is getting up there in years, but we don't use it all that much and I would prefer to fix it if I can.

1 Answer

Hello Kathy. Yes, if the unit will spin without touching the lid, it is not the switch. It is the timer.
