Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Lid Switch Assembly (Part Number: OEM9283509)

Hello Mrs. Myrs, First off, you have to get way down to see the model number. It is on the I.D. tag where you found the serial number but is practically hidden by the bottom edge of the lid. Also, did the lid fall and hit the lid switch or did it fall against the timer? You need to close the lid down slowly and listen close. When the lid switch is activates you will hear a very low, faint clicking noise. This click is the lid switch. If it fell back on the timer knob, it should have damaged nothing. It is designed to turn the machine off when the lid opens up to contact with the timer knob. If you dropped the lid to the closed position, it damaged the lid switch. I would gladly give a part number, but I cannot look up the part number without the model number. We can happily look up the part number for you if you would please post the model number.

Jim, I wouldn't reccomend splicing wires to the lid switch 285671. You'd be safer and better off replacing the switch assembly complete. It's not that hard or time consuming a project. Thanks and Good Luck, PS Check out the Repair Video attached to the part number, You'll do fine.

Hello Sandy. Once the control panel is open, you will need to unplug the lid switch connector and release the two brass colored clips. Then pull the cabinet forward and slide the cabinet off the frame. You wll now be able to remove the screws holding the lid switch in place, and replace the lid switch. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.

Hello Leonid. These are not to hard to install. You will need to unplug the washer. Then remove the two end cap covers by unsnapping them off the control panel. Once removed, you will need to remove the screws holding the control panel in place. Then pull forward on the control panel and flip the control panel backward to access the lid switch connection and the clips for the cabinet. Unplug the lid switch connection. There are two gold colored clips the will need to be removed by unsnapping them from the cabinet. Then the cabinet will pull off the frame to install the lid switch. Reinstall in reverse order. Hope this helps.
