The original lightbulb burned out, after 6 years of use, impressive..but the replacement I used wasn't as bright as the original - even though it was a 40 watt - now - I had to break the replacement bulb to remove it - the bulb is replaced at right angles to the screw hole - in other words, it's not on your right or left hand side it's towards you as you screw the new one in ..you're tightening the bulb in a counter-clock-wise manner ... so, now that I've removed what I thought was the same bulb as the original - I'm not sure how to proceed ... ANY help is appreciated!!!

Hello Sammie, The following cannot be done with power to the unit so go ahead and unplug it from the wall outlet. Put on a pair of protective gloves to protect you from the sharp edges of the old bulb and, using a pair of needlenosed pliers, grasp one side of the metal part of the light stuck in the socket. Turn it counterclockwise. This will wrap the metal from the light around the pliers but will be removed after turning far enough. When completely removed from the socket, carefully use another pair of pliers to turn the sharp metal in the opposite direction to remove it from the needlenosed pliers.
