Hi Me. The igniter ohms out between 50-800 ohms cold. If you see a visible crack in the center of it, it will light but not pull enough current to open the safety valve. Put a amp probe around one of the igniter wires. It should draw between 3.2-3.6 amps within 30-45 seconds to open the gas valve. Since you smell gas, it tells me that the igniter is not getting hot enough. Make sure the orifice is not plugged and you are getting a partial gas flow. The igniter is part # WP9782065. Is the broiler diffuser not directing the gas flow. Part # 8187945. Thank You.
