The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module (Part Number: OEM18059193)

1 Answer

Troy, the spark module WPW10331686 would need to be tested for 120VAC at the connection J1 pin 6 (red wire) when the bake cycle is selected. If there is not 120VAC, the main control WP6610449 has failed. If there is voltage, the most likely failure is the spark module.

Max, based on the information provided, it sounds like there may be a control failure. It would be recommended that the temperature probe WP8053344 is tested for resistance as it should measure about 1100O. If the temperature probe tests properly, then the intermittent failure would be from the main control 6610172. Unfortunately, the main control has been discontinued by the manufacturer and is no longer available.

Marie for Model Number Jgrp436wp00

On March 2019 I ordered a new gaz valve for my jenn- air gaz oven . After , it worked perfectly. I live at the place 6 months a year . When I leave , I turn off the gaz line . Is it a good or bad thing to do , because I just came back 5 days ago and realized that my bake and grill don"t work anymore . My top range works nice . I put a bit of wd-40 inside the gaz valve , it help to let gaz pass but not perfectly.... what should I do ? What is wrong ?

1 Answer

Marie, If you are not at the location it would be best to shut the gas off at the shutoff behind the unit. The gas valve should not be affected by it being shut off for long periods and it would be recommended.to check to make sure that the burners do not have cobwebs or anything like that inside the burner which is most likely.

Greg for Model Number WFG510S0AS

I have this oven at a rental property. My tenant sent me video of malfunctions with this unit. She sets it to 425 degrees, it begins to preheat makes it to 350-370 and then stops heating and does not relight. If she hits cancel, and resets it to 425, it'll start again. Sometimes she has to do this several times to get it up to temperature. I just put a new spark igniter in it and this did not fix the problem. She says when it goes to heat again it clicks 3 times and does not heat unless shes cancels and starts it again. When I go there, the oven fires up no problem every time, this only happens if you leave it on. She also reports when the oven is on and this happening, the burners on the oven do not ignite either, the gas is flowing and she can manually ignite the burners, or she can hit cancel, then the burners ignite. Could this be a spark module or a control panel?

1 Answer

Greg, your post description and information indicates an issue in the DSI spark module [ She also reports when the oven is on and this happening, the burners on the oven do not ignite either, the gas is flowing and she can manually ignite the burners, or she can hit cancel, then the burners ignite." The spark module contains a "safety circuit" that will "shut down" the module and will not allow the igniters to spark until the module is reset (turning off power through the module).

Ryan for Model Number WFG371LVB2

Model number: WFG371LVB2. When I turn bake on, the unit preheats to 350 fine, after that it never keeps the temperature at 350, it drops to 200 or so and then never goes back to 350. Ignitor clicks a few times, but doesn't seem like it kicks back on after pre-heat. So far I have replaced oven sensor and the main control board. Could it be the Range spark module WPW10331686 or a faulty bake ignitor? Or could it be that the sensor or main control board that I installed were defective? Thanks.

1 Answer

Ryan, based on the information provided, the spark module WPW10331686 would be the likely cause of failure. With the bake cycle turned on, it can be tested for incoming voltage at the connection J1 from pin 6 to ground after the oven has stopped heating and has cooled down. If there is 120VAC within 1 minute, the main control is calling for heat. From there, DC voltage would be tested from Pin 1 with the red meter probe to pin 2 with the black meter probe. If there is not 18VDC, the module has failed if the bake ignitor is sparking. If the voltage is there, then the gas valve WPW10293048 has failed.

Brian for Model Number KGRA806PSS02

Kitchen-Aid Gas Range (Bake/Broil Issue) Model: KGRA806PSS02 SerialNo: KT1711695 Age: 14 years Condition: Good - almost excellent Previous maintenance: Replaced Control/Display 8 years ago Range burners are working as expected - Bake burner lights as expected then goes out after 30 seconds - Broil burner lights as expected then goes out after 30 seconds - Display does not change, continues to display as if Bake or broil is working. - No Error Code Can duplicate the problem by unplugging the range and then repeating this process, I have replaced the following parts with no change to above symptoms: 1. Gas Valve WP9763716 / AP6014168 (10/15/2020) 2. Spark Module: WPW10331686 / AP6019728 (10/21/2020) Appreciate any guidance available. Thank-you, ~Brian

Brian, based on the information provided, there would likely be a failure with the temperature sensor WPW10131825 or with the oven control board 9761594 (unfortunately, this part has been discontinued). With the range power cord unplugged, the sensor can be tested for resistance and it should measure about 1100O at room temperature and 1350O when heated to 200°F. If the sensor tests properly, then the oven control has failed and would need to be replaced.

If you here it clicking and no spark, I would check the wire itself. Also, make sure the ignitor is in the proper location not bent away from the burner too far. If that all looks good I would bet on the ignitor being bad. Handle them with care as they tend to be very fragile!

Dale, as the spark module is causing the cooktop to spark when only the oven cycle is started, the failure would be in the spark module WPW10331686.

Hello, Francisco. The problem you described has nothing to do with the spark module because it sparks when you turn the knob on. You may want to start the troubleshooting from verifying that the igniter is mounted correctly and the tip of the igniter is clean. If there is nothing wrong then the burner tube would need to be replaced. The part number for the burner tube wp9758078
