The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Spark Module (Part Number: OEM18059193)

John L. for Model Number SF362LXST0

The oven will not light. The new spark igniter tested ok. I have power on both bake and broil to the spark control module (120 ac). I have continuity on the oven temperature sensor. The gas Shutoff switch is on but the gas control valve was not checked. I was thinking the spark control model needs replacement or do I still need to rule out the gas valve? I stepped on my multimeter and broke it. The spark control module has to send power to the ignitor first to open the gas valve right?

Vicki for Model Number WFG540H0AE0

THIS STOVE IS JUST OVER 7 YEARS OLD, THE TOP BURNERS WORK AND LIGHT FINE, THE BROILER UNIT WORKS AND LIGHT FINE, THE BAKE UNIT-BOTTOM BURNER IN THE OVEN CLICKS 4-6 TIMES BUT IT WONT LIGHT YOU CAN NOT EVEN SEE ANY SPARKS LIKE YOU CAN WITH THE BROILER, WE ORDERED A NEW SPARK IGNITOR AND REPLACED IT---STILL NOT LIGHTING YOU HEAR IT CLICKING BUT CAN NOT SEE ANY SPARKS BUT YOU CAN MANUALLY LIGHT IT AND IT WORKS UNTIL IT REACHES TEMP. AND THEN IT WILL NOT SELF RESTART. PLEASE HELP !!

Hello Vicki, replace spark wire harness WPW10701462 for the bake/broil ignitors, it sounds like the bake spark wire is faulty and allowing the spark from the spark board to ground out.

Don, Is the range on LP gas or Nat.gas? Check the bake burner tube, check the openings in the burner for obstructions, spillage, etc.(especially the rear openings that cross under the tube. Then check for a proper color(blue) and flames size(3/4 inch). If all's OK then replace the DSI spark module. There is a "safety" circuit in the module that will activate and turn off the power to the oven burner valve if the module doesn't see a change in the resistance to the igniter due to a weak or small or partial burner flame. If the flame is correct, then the module safety circuit is malfunctioning and needs to be replaced.

Hello Paul, If the ignitor does not make the clicking sound signifying sparking, the issue would be the spark module WPW10331686 if no harness issues exist, if the control board WPW10424330 has already been replaced.

Mike for Model Number KGRK806PSS02

Our range has the control board and spark module in the space between the oven and the cook top, just behind the front panel. We had a spill on the top of the range and somehow fluid ran down inside and on top of the W10331686 spark module, which fried a few resistors on the board. I want to try and fix the board and I have replacements for all but one of the parts, since I cannot figure out the value of it since it is so badly burnt. Can you tell me what the value of R46 on this spark module board is? Thanks, Mike

Pong for Model Number amana agr5630bds0

Hi, I just wanted to see if you guys can help me here. My oven stopped working, only top burners are working there is no clicking or gas smell when broil or bake is on. I replaced the broiler igniter already still nothing. I checked all the wires everything looks ok what do you think it is the spark module or gas valve? If the spark module is good wouldn’t I hear a clicking? I don’t get a clicking or a smell of gas when I turn on broil or bake, what can it be?

1 Answer

Pong, you might want to check the wiring for any breaks and for continuity from the spark module [WPW10331686] to the ignitors. If the wiring check good, then the spark module would be the issue. If the spark module and wiring are good, then there should have been a spark and no gas would come through if it was the valve.

Todd, you will want to check to ensure that the regulator on the valve assembly [WPW10293048] as well as the orifices are set to the proper gas setting. If the regulator is not set according to the gas that the house is on, it can cause irregularities. The same if the cooktop orifices are not the proper size, and if the bake or broil orifice hoods have not been set accordingly. The gas valve has a cap on it where the gas type can be adjusted (with the gas turned off to the unit), and the orifice hoods would need to be tightened or loosened depending on what gas is used.

Jeff for Model Number WFG374LVS0

On my Whirlpool gas range (WFG374LVS0) the 4 corner burners will not spark or ignite. They will click, and I need to light them manually with a lighter. The center burner will click and light successfully, and the oven/broiler both work without issues. Oddly enough, if the oven is hot, the 4 corner burners will occasionally click and light successfully, but this is odd. I replaced the igniter switch and harness (W10170130) but it did not fix the problem. Should I replace the spark module, or something else?

1 Answer

Jeff, you may want to clean the burner heads and caps as most commonly when the unit will spark but not ignite it is because the burner heads have a residue on them preventing the ignitor from sending the spark to the correct position due to it not being able to ground where it needs to.

Hello Matt, you'll want to test J1-6 for a voltage signal from the main board WPW10477075 to your spark module WPW10331686 when using the bake feature. You can also check for a broil signal on J1-7 from the main board at the spark module. If you have a signal from the main board at the spark module but no spark you will want to replace the spark module. However if you have no signal coming to the spark module you will want to replace the main board, hope this helps!

Stephen, Dismount the igniter WP8054129 and visually inspect the wire electrode for any damage, melted end, bent etc. . check for a loose connection or frayed wires to the igniter. Turn off the gas, program a broil cycle and observe the spark from the igniter to the burner, it should have a bright white spark every 1/2 second or so, if not, or if the spark is erratic or orange in color, the spark module WPW10331686 would be the most likely problem.
