The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module (Part Number: OEM18059193)

1 Answer

Attila, Check the burner tubes to ensure that they are not rusted or corroded in any way. This sounds like it may be what the issue is with the unit.

Doug, if the red/white wire at the spark module connection J1 pin 6 has 120VAC when the bake cycle is selected and the unit is trying to go back to temperature, the failure would likely be in the module WPW10331686.

Ken for Model Number KGRS807SSS00

I have Kitchenaid range model # KGRS807SSS00. There was most likely a power surge from the utility company and the control panel display for the oven is not turning on at all. All 4 burners are igniting and working fine. The oven has lights that turn on and off properly when I press the light oven light button on the control panel. When I press any touch buttons on control panel, I hear the response sound. It just that control panel doesn't have any display. Any idea what could be wrong? What part should be replaced first to get the control panel display back on? Thank you in advance.

1 Answer

Ken, Thanks for the question!!! It is most likely the display WP9762794 itself that was damaged. This could be verified by testing for voltage going to the display.

Jose, Unfortunately, these spark modules are not compatible with each other. You will want to use the one your manufacturer calls for.

Carlos, with the back panel of the console removed, the DSI control module WPW10511278 would need to be tested for 120 VAC at the wire found on connection J1 pin 6 during a bake cycle. When the oven has reached temperature and cools down to where it should re-ignite the burner, there should be 120VAC at this wire. If not, the main control WPW10340699 has failed (based on flame re-igniting for a moment). If there is voltage and the flame re-ignited momentarily, the DSI module would need to be tested for 8 to 18 VDC from the wire at connection J1 pin 1 to the wire at connection J1 pin 2. If there is not voltage when the temperature has become too cool, the failure would be in the DSI module. If there is voltage and the gas valve is not maintaining an open state for the flame, the gas valve WPW10602004 (valve is set for natural gas at the manufacturer and would need to be converted when installing if unit is set for LP) would need to be replaced.

Joey, Based on the information you have provided and if the gas valve and probe check out properly this issue could be with the control.

David, it would be recommended that the burner heads and caps are thoroughly cleaned as residue can accumulate and prevent the ignitors from sparking correctly.

Frederick for Model Number SF362LXST0

I have a Whirlpool SF362LXST0. The oven and broiler will not light at all now. For a while, the oven would light the first time but would not re-light when it was calling for more heat. I always here 3 clicks and a faint smell of gas when it tries to light. It will continue to try to light every 2-3 minutes without success. I have changed the oven igniter, the gas valve and checked the thermocouple (which is working fine). I hate to purchase an expensive spark module (DSI board) and find out that it was not the problem. How can I test my spark module to see if it is working? I noticed in another troubleshooting response I read on the internet was; the system (bake and broil) is working properly when you hear 3 clicks when the oven is turned on. Well, this is what I am hearing. Do you have any other suggestions I should try now?

1 Answer

Hello Fredrick, start by checking the oven bake /broil gas safety valve coils for about 216 ohms each using a multimeter. Next check that the oven door light switch is showing the door is closed, the control board will disable oven heating if it sees the oven door open for more than a minute or two. Check/clean the bake and broil burner tubes where they are mounted on the frame, as these are also electrical connections for grounding the tubes for the DSI board to detect the burner flame. Check the low voltage wiring from the DSI board to the gas valve coils for any wiring problems.

Paul, Based on your description I would check for power to the igniter when it is time for it to relight.
