The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Spark Module (Part Number: OEM18059193)

1 Answer

Rick, Yes, with the bake igniter not sparking and having a new igniter then the issue will be in the spark module which is part number WPW10331686.

Corey, You will want to test the oven safety valve for 216 ohms of resistance across bake to common and broil to common. If the resistance is incorrect then replace the oven safety valve part number WPW10293048. If it checks ok then the spark module would most likely be the issue WPW10331686.

Hello Breada! Unfortunately, we do not have the relay/transistor information off the module as the manufacturer only offers the module as an assembly. Sorry.

Hello, I am hoping you can help me with a problem I am having with my Whirlpool Gas range. When I was cook at 400 degrees I received an error code E2 F3 which I was told was the oven sensor so I replaced that. Once replaced while cooking I noticed the broiler would click on during baking mode. I was then told it was a bad control board. I took the control board out and had it manufactured. Put that back in and still have the broiler problem. It will preheat just fine. The problem is when it clicks back on to keep the temperature even the broiler clicks and lights up then it clicks below and that lights the broiler clicks off.

Tyler, The most likely cause for the burner to shut off after 5 seconds would be a faulty oven safety valve. It sounds like the valve coil is shorting out causing the issue.

The BAKE igniter stopped working on my oven. It's a bit over a year old. I hear a clicking and don't see a spark on the BAKE igniter. Under further investigation, I actually see the BROIL igniter sparking when I choose BAKE thus the clicking. (BROIL function and top burners work fine) I tried 2 OEM replacement BAKE igniters from another distributer and the problem persisted. I just ordered the W10331686 and swapped it out to find the same result. I have not yet checked the voltage on the gas valve. Where should I go from here? Could I have gotten 2 bad igniters? Thanks, Jim.

James, You will want to check the resistance of the safety valve. Check from bake to common and make sure that there is 216 ohms of resistance. If there is not then the oven safety valve would need to be replaced.

I have a whirlpool stove that ignites all the burners including the broiler but not the oven. I cleaned the igniter and it worked a few tests then stopped. So I replaced the igniter and got the same result, it ignited a few times then quit reigniting in the middle of cooking something. I can definitely smell gas when it tries to ignite so I’m assuming the gas valve is working. I also hear the clicking when it tries to ignite. Dose the spark module malfunction in this way? I wanted to get an opinion before I spent the money for a new one.

Hello Scott. See if the unit is sparking. If so, and not lighting, replace the burner assembly.

Hello Jeff, If the ignitor is clicking when it should start, the issue is most likely in the gas valve WPW10293048. The only common thread between the top and the bake compartment is the spark module WPW10331686. If the bake ignitor is not sparking or making the clicking sound, the module would be in question.

Hello Barbara, You should test the coils in the gas valve WP9763716. They should read 216 ohms each. If this is good, you will most likely need to replace the spark module WPW10331686. I do not see the board being responsible for this issue unless it is only the bake that is inoperative.
