The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Bernster, With a new spark module WPW10331686 as long as there are no loose or broken wires the issue would be in the oven bake valve WPW10293048. The spark module produces 8 to 18 VDC to the gas valve, and the solenoids should register 216 ohms resistance. If the resistance or voltage is low or missing, the valve will not open and the burner will not ignite.

Hello J., You will need to turn off the gas and power to the unit before beginning. You will need to remove the grates and the burner caps then remove the screws holding down each burner. This will allow you to raise the main top. Be sure none of the burners try to come up with the main top since this will damage the gas tubes and they will have to be replaced.

Hello Ray. The first thing to check is the is to make sure that you are getting proper voltage to the direct spark ignition control. With oven on broil you want to have 120vac between connectors J1-4 neutral and J1-7 L1. If you don't have power here then you need to replaced Clock assembly. If you have power the test from J1-4 to J1--2. If you do not have power then replace spark module. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hello Brian, You need to check the wall outlet. If the problem is inside the unit, it will have to be near where the power first enters the unit since the wiring splits and after the split, the surface and bake compartments are entirely separate.

Hello Ms. Tee. Most likely the control board WP9760013 will need to be replaced on the unit. It sounds like it shorted the control when he did that.

Brian, You will want to check the resistance of the gas valve WPW10293048. If you check from common to bake and common to broil the resistance of each reading should be approximately 216 ohms. If not the valve would need to be replaced.
