The Spark Module is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool ranges. It is an electrical component that generates the spark needed to ignite the gas burners. By sparking consistently and reliably, the module allows the cooktop burners to ignite with each use.

Causes of a bad spark module can include normal wear and tear over time, exposure to moisture or residue, or issues with the electronic components that produce the spark.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners that will not ignite or light consistently
  • Burners that ignite but then immediately go out
  • Only some of the burners lighting while others do not
  • A clicking sound coming from the ignitors but no visible spark

Note: For harness from spark module to igniters use part number 9756892.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spark module is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module (Part Number: OEM18059193)

Hello Cods, If the ignitor is not sparking in the bake compartment when it is turned on, the spark module WPW10331686 would be at fault. If it does spark, the gas valve WPW10293048 would most likely be the problem.

Paul P. for Model Number KGRS807SSS00

Kitchen aid KGRS807SSSOO, comes to temperature but never relights. The display will say the set temperature, but once the oven is turned off and back on it will show a lower temperature. If oven is left to cool, it will preheat and the problem will occur again. Taking your advise, posted August 19th I purchased and installed control board, oven lit, came to temperature, and never relit. I let it sit ten minutes, turned it off and back on, the display showed a much lower temperature. What is the next step now that I have installed a pretty expensive part that did not work? Thanks

Hello Paul, You should have first tested the temperature sensor WPW10131825 and if it tests about 1100 ohms at about 70°F, replace the gas valve. If you ordered the control board from us you can return it as long as you provide the serial number from your units' I.D. tag if you purchased it within the last 365 days. Just give us a call at 1-877-477-7278.

Our oven runs up to temp fine, but after it reaches preset temp it will not hold temp, and the temp reading stays the same, when I shut off unit and restart the temp display shows an obvious lower temp and unit will stay in "PREHEAT" but will do nothing else untill oven is cool. Then once I try again it will heat up and repeat the problem. Thermostat? control board? spark module? Everything else on the stove top and broiler works. I tried the convection setting, but I believe it too just sat at "preheat." Thanks for your time.

Hello Paul. If you reset it and it shows correct temp, then the sensor is good and the board is bad and will need to be replaced.

Paul, In most cases this would be caused by a weak solenoid in the oven safety valve. The part that you would need to replace is WPW10293048.

Daniel, The most likely cause for the top igniters and oven igniters to not spark would be a faulty spark module which is part number WPW10331686.

Avalon for Model Number SF357PEKQ1

The broil and bake options on this whirlpool range does not work. When turned on, there is an initial spark (At least I hear and saw the spark igniter], but nothing happens. The four burners work just fine, you are able to turn them on without any hitch. I did open the back of the range and tested for current, it seemed to me that there is low voltage to the two very small purple wires, I am not sure what is going on. I have NOT tried to light it with a match.

1 Answer

Avalon, You would not be able to light the bake or broil burner with a match. What you will want to do is to check the oven safety valve for 216 ohms of resistance. You will check from the bake to the common (Common is the center terminal) and from Broil to common. If the resistance is not correct then issue will be with the oven safety valve which will need to be replaced.
