Rob September 10, 2013 for Model Number Whirlpool 4389142 My freezer keeps icing up and the fridge is not cooling enough. I recenlty replaced the defrost timer (which helped). I have tested the bimetal defrost thermostat and it works as should. I have noticed that the evaporator fan does not come on at all. I have left the fridge running for a couple days and have yet to see it run. Could this be a defective fan or is it a control issue? Thanks, Rob
1 Answer Hello Rob. Test for power to the fan motor. If it is there, and the motor does not run, you will need to replace the fan motor on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...
Jerry E. January 16, 2012 for Model Number tt18dkxew03 The part # ap3139953 evaporator fan motor. How to replace it ?
1 Answer Hi Jerry. The evap. fan motor part # WP4389142, is more time consuming than difficult. Shut off unit. Remove the ice bin and dump the ice. Shut off the ice maker. Remove the shelves. Remove the back wall. Then examine the depth of the fan blade as it is in reference to the front panel shroud. The side of the fan blade should be half way out of the shroud (Usually). Follow your model exactly. Then use all mount rubber bushings on the new mount assy. The electrical connectors may have locking tabs on the female side of the connector. User a pick tool to reach in and release the tab lock out of the center hole on the male coil terminal. Then reverse reassembly. Thank You. -- Read More...
John June 25, 2011 for Model Number et18nmxfw00 Whilrpool Our fridge leaks from the freezer into the fridge-collecting water in the drawers and bottom of fridge. If we take the cover off the freezer and thaw out the tube in the back of the freezer, it stops leaking for a while. But it just freezes up again and starts leaking again.
1 Answer Hi John. There is a drain tube heater you can try to use. This part # is8201771. Please follow the directions. Also use very hot water to insure drain opening and remove all debris in drain system. Hope this helps. Thank you. Read More...
Tim Root April 26, 2011 for Model Number 106.78182891 Does anyone make an evaporator fan motor that will last more than 3 years. I've replaced this part three times and am beginning to think that this is intentional. Each time it's been the bearings (I should say bushings) that wear, causing the motor shaft to wear.
1 Answer Hello Tim! I do apologize you keep having the same issue with your appliance. We are showing that the manufacture has redesigned the evaporator fan motor WP4389142. We do not have any information as to why or when they redesigned the part, hopefully this go around it will correct the issue without any fails. Thanks. Read More...
