Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Overload/Relay Kit (Part Number: OEM12027741)

Jack, The overload relay kit for this model will be part number 12002783 but has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. There really is no way to test the relay other than testing to make sure that there is 120 vac getting to it.

I have a under counter whirlpool ice maker. The compressor overload just clicks and the compressor won't turn on. I tried other start relays and it starts for a second but then the overload kicks in and the overload gets very hot. I thought all relays and overloads were the same but maybe not. My model number is EC5100XFW0. Serial #EG4616758. Mfg date 11-97. The part shown in the photos of your site look like my parts. I just want to make sure that is what is wrong before I purchase the part. Thanks and looking for your answer.

Richie, The unit would have a run capacitor but would not affect the start of the compressor or causing the compressor to trip on overload. This would be most likely be a start relay that is causing the issue to occur. The part number you would need is 12002783.

My freezer section is not cooling and I hear a clicking sound coming from the compressor relay every couple of minutes. The compressor is warm but looks like it is running at a very slow speed. The fan is working too. Some cool air is also coming in the fridge. I checked and there is no problem of defrost etc. I researched on the internet and inferred that the overload relay is the likely cause of this cooling problem and clicking sound. I ordered kit part # 12002783. Will that come with complete instructions to replace the old one. I heard that the parts have been redesigned. I was looking for a video anywhere on the net but could not find it for this specific model. Could you please help. Thanks.
