For Whirlpool Control Panel (Electronic User Interface) (Part Number: OEM17957289)

Jp for Model Number MDB7749AWW2

Symptom: Dishwasher stopped and the Start/Resume light was flashing. Steps so far: (Have removed power every time a part is replaced) 1. Replaced a faulty door close switch, replaced the front touch panel -dishwasher functioned as it should for one (1) complete cycle, then same issue came up. 2. Switched out the thermal fuse -no difference 3. Replaced the control board (#W11202746R) -no difference (Start/Resume light still flashes) Open for suggestions on what the issue could be (wife thinks the replacement touch panel is to blame). Thank you for any assistance.

1 Answer

JP, if the start/resume light is flashing slowly, this can be caused by the latch strike not seating properly or a loose or broken wire. Based on the information provided, these two cases would be the most likely situation. It would be recommended that these things are checked and tested to identify if they would be the cause.

The control panel has been replaced twice already on this dishwasher and when I tried to start it last night, it wouldn't. Only certain lights on the panel would light up when touched. Start is one that would not light. I read through the questions and answers on this sight and saw the one where you said to try to run diagnostics by pressing heated dry / normal / heated dry/ normal - I did that. All light lit up and then the machine started going like it was running a normal cycle (after I had just washed all of the dishes from last night manually). I tried to cancel it, but it won't cancel. Still running. Is it the control panel that needs to be replaced again? This is one expensive dishwasher...it does a fantastic job when it works...but I'll never buy another one.

Joann, With all the lights coming on in the service mode then this would be more likely a issue with the control board and not the control panel.

Hello, my Maytag dishwasher suddenly stopped working. None of the Cycle buttons light up when pushed. The Options buttons do light up. But the unit will not run when Run is pushed, I suspect this is because it thinks that no cycle has been chosen. I've tried the usual clean and re-seat the connectors, checking the door switch. It seems to know when the door is closed as when AC power is turned back on with door open, closing the door causes the pump to run shortly apparently a normal response to AC power coming back on after power failure. But after that, then back to no response on Options and does not run. Do you think it is the control board or the front panel buttons? Hint, I've replaced the front panel a few years ago with p/n W10199663. At that time I diagnosed the problem an open diode in the front panel button matrix. I had to literally dig into the plastic to get at each diode/button, was a real pain. But I'm suspicious that yet another AC power surge has taken out another diode. thanks

Hello Paul. It sounds like the control panel is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

Test for power to the control board. If there, replace the control panel on the unit. If the issue continues, then replace the board as well.

Mason for Model Number MDB7809AWM2

Ok so I believe my control panel is bad as I ran diagnostics test and all lights lit up and stayed on. Had to reset the power to get them off. But when I push normal wash, and heated dry they light up. When I push the start no light and cancel won't get lights off that did light up. Checked door latch and other relay with ohms test. So now am ordering control panel. There are 3 choices? My unit is stainless steel and ythe three you show are black, white and a beige type. Which is correct. Your help greatly appreciated. Thanks Mason

Thanks for the great service! I have been having some trouble with this washer for some time being that it has been running really long (slow) cycles and the lights that tell you what it is doing were usually wrong. (At startup it would show it in dry cycle, but still finished a normal cycle.) Lately I cannot disable "Steam Clean" and it would do a cycle sometimes lasting 5 hours. Then in a final breath, I can select a cycle (still not being able to disable Steam) and it will not start. I ordered a controller from you and installed this afternoon only to find I still have all the same symptoms and still will not start. I don't want to throw a lot of money into this machine and just want to know where to go next. I am an experienced troubleshooter and everything points to the controller. Even if it is the latch switch or thermal fuse it doesn't explain the incorrect lights. Thanks. The controller came in under 24 hours and I ordered at 4 PM. Wow!

Hello John, You will need to run the units' diagnostic cycle to see if any codes are present. To invoke the Diagnostics Cycle, perform the following key presses or actions in less than 6 seconds while in standby: Heated Dry ? Normal ? Heated Dry ? Normal If the unit will not go into the diagnostic mode, the4 control is considered by the manufacturer to be defective.

Rick, The control panel of the unit only comes as the panel and the keypad. The control board is a separate part.
