For Whirlpool Control Panel (Console/Display Assembly) (Part Number: OEM17955189)

Jim for Model Number MDB6709AWW0

Similar problem as to what others have reported. Lights on one side of the control panel stopped working, now lights on both sides are out and the unit appears to be completely unresponsive, no sign of life at all. Once I open up the door after turning off the circuit breaker, I will check the door switch and thermal fuse. Then remove the ribbon cable and try the eraser cleanup trick. If that doesn't work, then the problem can be either the control board or the control panel. Is there a way to definitively rule out one of those two control pieces over the other to complete the diagnosis?

Hello Jim, This will either be the ribbon cable connection, (corrupted by moisture), or the control panel W10811153 has simply failed. The issue can be in the control board, but this is much less likely.

Hello Jessy. It sounds like moisture is leaking into the inner door or you are cleaning the control panel with ammonia based cleaners. If moisture is leaking into the inner door, you need to replace the vent seal on the unit.

Hello Irene. You remove the ribbon cable from the control board, then clean the ribbon cable. If the issue continues, you will need to order and replace the control panel W10811153 in the unit.

Hello James, I would first turn off the power to the unit and remove the panel and unplug the ribbon cable. Using the eraser end of a pencil, rub across the ribbon cable in the same direction as the traces. This will clean them up if any corrosion is present and causing loss of electrical continuity. If this doesn't clear the problem, the panel will require replacement. White W10811153, Black W10811152, or biscuit W10811154.
