We added reverse osmosis to our house. I want to bypass the fridge water filter and was told by Sears that I need a bypass plug. So I bought what they said I need but it is a short little plug. The filter I need to replace is a long filter that goes under the fridge through the grille. I don't see how to get this little plug into the under the fridge area. All "how to" videos on the internet show a filter being replaced that is in the fresh compartment of the refrigerator, not the area under the fridge.

Ted for Model Number WRS571CIDM01

I see many questions regarding not using a water filter. My water line to the refrigerator is coming from a reverse osmosis system under my kitchen sink. Can I run the water & ice dispenser on this model, which was just delivered today, without the filter being in place? Also, the owner's manual says 1 cup of dispensed water in about 8 seconds. I'm getting half that. Will removing the filter, assuming I can do so, help with more pressure? Otherwise I'll grow even older waiting for chilled water.

Hello Ted. Reverse Osmosis Water Supply IMPORTANT: The pressure of the water supply coming out of a reverse osmosis system going to the water inlet valve of the refrigerator needs to be between 30 and 120 psi (207 and 827 kPa). If a reverse osmosis water filtration system is connected to your cold water supply, the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system needs to be a minimum of 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa). If the water pressure to the reverse osmosis system is less than 40 to 60 psi (276 to 414 kPa): ¦ Check to see whether the sediment filter in the reverse osmosis system is blocked. Replace the filter if necessary. ¦ Allow the storage tank on the reverse osmosis system to refill after heavy usage. ¦ If your refrigerator has a water filter, it may further reduce the water pressure when used in conjunction with a reverse osmosis system. Remove the water filter. No By Pass Required Remove Filter. If you have questions about your water pressure, call a licensed, qualified plumber.
