Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Filter Bypass Plug (Part Number: OEM18030018)

Larry, the manufacturer does not show a bypass plug for your model. The filter indicator light will illuminate showing that a filter is not installed or that it is time to change the filter. As the filter has been removed, the control will continue to illuminate showing that there is not one installed in the housing. Unfortunately, the manufacturer does not show a way of getting the light to stay off.

Clinton, Your model should still allow water to flow if the filter is removed without using a bypass. They designed it this way so no bypass plug is needed.

Hello Evelyn, sometimes when new the filter head seals are tight, if you have turned the plug to the unlock position you would just need to pull it out, it seems that it will absolutely not pull out without breaking something, you may want to call for service to the manufacturer's cust service and ask if this is covered under the terms of the first year warranty.

Terry, your refrigerator does not need a "bypass cap" Just remove the filter and install the water filter cap. The filter housing has an "automatic" bypass system that will allow the water to flow through the system with the filter removed. If the water filter is clean or new, the more likely issue would be a "clogged fill valve or low water pressure to the refrigerator valve connection from the cold water supply.

Tony for Model Number ed5kvexvb03

I’m trying to change the water filter in my Whirlpool side by side and after researching, I realized that I need the Everydrop 3 filter. These filters absolutely will not work! I have tried 3 new filters and have no water flow with the new filter installed. Water flow is good with the old filter, which is the original blue PUR filter. From reading reviews on these filters, it seems to be a common problem since they switched to Everydrop. Is there another brand filter I can use? Also, can I use the water and ice dispenser without a filter?

1 Answer

Hello Tony, the model you have does not require a filter bypass if no filter is used. The manufacturer recommended filter replacement is the EVERY DROP type, as a suggestion the filter housing WPW10121138 may be worn and not accepting the newer filters.
