This water level pressure switch senses tub water level and signals the control to stop filling and advance the cycle. Replacing a failed switch restores proper fill shut-off and allows the washer to move to wash, drain, and spin.

  • Detects water level via air pressure in the attached hose from the tub air dome
  • Signals the timer/control to close inlet valves at the selected fill level
  • Enables agitation and spin only when the level is appropriate or the tub is empty
  • Typical symptoms of a failed switch include overfilling or underfilling, continuous filling, cycle not advancing, or no spin
What's included: 1 water level pressure switch Install notes:
  • Disconnect power and turn off water supply before servicing
  • Access the switch in the control console or top panel; note wire locations for reassembly
  • Transfer the pressure hose and wire connectors to the new switch one at a time; ensure the hose is clear, not kinked or cracked, and fits snugly
  • After installation, run a quick fill test to ensure proper shut-off and cycle progression

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Water Level Pressure Switch (Part Number: OEM18053358)

1 Answer

William, Remove power, remove the pressure switch, disconnect the air tube and blow in the end of the tube. Then check to make sure the hose isn't kinked or twisted. Disconnect the wire harness and check for scratches on the foil tracers and make sure the wires are seated in the connector properly and tight. Reverse the process and check for the error code and that the washer fills. If the code returns, then replace the pressure switch.

I was having intermittent problems with my washer not draining after a few loads of laundry. Sometimes I could run the drain cycle and that would drain the water but it was still intermittent. I have cleaned the hose and the drain filter and replaced the drain pump. After I put the new drain pump in, the door locked and the drain pump runs constantly with no water in the machine. I have to unplug the washer to get it to stop and the door remains locked. Any ideas? Thank you

Gina, You will want to test the pressure switch and check the pressure hose where it connects to the tub of the unit. If the hose is clogged then this will cause the unit to think that the tub is full and will try to drain the water out. Also if the pressure switch is bad it can cause the same issue. If these check ok then the issue will be a faulty main control board.

My washer will not fill up with water. The diagnostics test code reads F21, however when we put 2 buckets of water in the washer tub and put it on the drain cycle, it drained all the water out but did not spin. I have opened the drain pump up and no objects were in there. We replaced the water valve and the flowmeter. Water is coming through the pipes fine and there are no kinks in the hoses. Do you have any ideas what part we would need? Pressure Switch? Or another?

1 Answer

Maggie, If the unit is draining properly but getting the F21 error code then check the pressure hose to make sure that it is not clogged. If it is not then the issue will most likely be a pressure switch that has failed.

Alex, You will want to check the pressure hose to make sure that there is no clog in it. Also check the drain to make sure that there is nothing clogged in it. If this checks ok then try to run the unit through a clean cycle and see if the unit is still presenting the same error. If it is then the issue will be caused by a faulty control board.

Javier, Yes, you ordered the correct part WPW10249845 / W10249845, Switch - WL . This switch fits all four (4) versions of the WFW9700V*** of this front load washer. You didn't mention an issue, other than "this doesn't seem to fit". What seems to be the issue ?

Hello G.B., This is only made like that to facitate the manufacturing process, (saves the manufacturer money). It does not adjust anything and will not have any effect on the water level.

I have an WFW9700VW 00 and accidentally ordered a water level switch W10249845, which I now know is for WFW9700VW 01. I should have ordered W10415587 for WFW9700VW00. Apparently I should have cross checked more oneline parts sites before ordering. I can make the part fit by breaking off a plastic tab on the male part of the electrical connector, but don't want to mess something up. Do you know if W10249845 can be used interchangeably for W10415587, or how else I can find out?

1 Answer

Hello J, If the part is not listed for your model number specifically, there is a difference that will prevent the unit from operating as it was originally designed. You need to return the part and order the correct one. Give us a call at 1-877-477-7278 and we can set you up a return authorization.
