Michel Leroux for Model Number Kitchenaid 15'' Automatic Ice Maker, Architect® Series II

After working for 4 weeks the ice bin became filled with water and ice and the drain pump failed to turn on. The technician indicated that the ice maker needs to be piped to an open drain (similar to a washing machine). Currently it is piped like a dishwasher. The drain pipe is vented through a service vent (island installation). Is this the correct recommendation. I am concerned with an open drain under the sink.

If the unit has a drain pump on it then the issue would be a faulty drain pump. The drain pump would be located in the back of the unit and would screw to the base on the right side looking from the back.
