For Whirlpool Ice Machine Pump (Part Number: OEM16852032)

David for Model Number KUIC15nxrs

I think my drain pump is going bad. ice machine overflowed with water after about 6 months of use. Tech came out and replace circulation pump. Machine ran fine for a month then filled up with water twice this week. Can turn the machine off and the drain pump doesn't try and drain the bin. If I unplug the ice machine for a few minutes and then plug back in the drain pump runs and will drain the water in the bin and work fine. Sometimes for weeks but yesterday is stopped twice. Afraid it is going to overflow when I am gone. Should the drain pump turn off the ice machine if it stops pumping? Should I buy a new drain pump?

1 Answer

Hello David. No, it will not turn the unit off. It sounds like the pump may not be the reason. It sounds like the board WPW10226156 may be failing on the unit. It powers the drain pump.

Phil, The 1901A drain pump kit is the "only" option, at this point. Installing it in a 15" ice maker is a bit daunting, but doable. Be very careful moving the refrigerant tubes and wire harness, if or when you have to make room for the pump assembly. When you're set and ready, you'll find tilting and twisting the pump assembly will make it a bit easier to get into the opening and set in the mounting bracket on the base of the machine. The basic installation instructions can then be followed from there on out.

Hello William. We have no way of knowing if a whirlpool part will work on sub zero because we do not offer sub zero parts. Thanks.

Ernie for Model Number gi15ndxzb

Just moved into a house with an old non functioning whirlpool ice maker model gi1500xhb1. It has an inline ge filter ap717. Condensate line drains into the goose neck just below the sink. My question is: 1) Since the new model has it's own filter inside the ice maker, do I remove the inline ge filter? I have no idea how old it is anyway. So if I keep it, I suppose I need to replace it. 2) Assuming the old unit has a functioning condensate pump, can I use it on the new model or should I buy a 1901A pump. Thanks

Hello Ernie. If your new unit has a filter, you can remove the inline on the unit.

Ernie for Model Number Whirlpool GI15NDXZB

Bought an old house. I'm replacing a 15 year old whirlpool Gold ice maker G11500XHB1 with a Whirlpool GI15NDXZB. The old unit has a water supply already installed with an in line GE ice maker filter AP717. It also has a drain line that runs from the ice maker to the goose neck under the sink. Should I remove the GE in line filter since its age is unknown and since the new whirlpool has a filter in the new ice maker anyway? Also, I'm assuming the old unit has a pump installed already. Should I buy a new 1901-A drain pump or hope the old one will work? Thanks

1 Answer

Ernie, For the first part of the question about the water filter, you will want to remove the GE filter that is on the current water line. If the pump from the old whirlpool icemaker will work then yes you can reuse it but if not then you will need to get the 1901a.

Hello Bob. It is not to hard to replace the drain pump. Just remove the back cover to access and replace the part. It is tight inside there so small tools helps a lot when replacing the pump.

Hello Steve. You will connect it the same way you would connect a dishwasher under the sink. You will need the proper plumbing fittings to do this.

Lynda for Model Number KitchenAid Icemaker KUIC15NHZS

Installing a 15" KitchenAid Icemaker and was to use Drain Pump Kit (1901A). Wanted to run reverse osmosis water to the icemaker but specs say "an r.o. system is not recommended for ice makers that have a drain pump installed". Does this mean that I CANNOT install this condensate pump as it will not perform properly or will deteriorate? If so, is there any other kind of pump out there that can handle r.o. water adequately? Thanks for your help in figuring this out.

1 Answer

Hello Lynda, The problem is actually that the low water pressure that is delivered to the unit from a reverse osmosis system will fill more slowly that the drain pump drains. This will cause issues with the water valve and increases complaints of slow ice production. It is recommended to install an in-line filter and do not include the ice machine in the reverse osmosis system.
