The Washer Drain Pump Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This component is vital for draining water from the washer drum during the wash and rinse cycles. The pump forces water out of the drum and through the drain hose, ensuring that clothes are cleaned and rinsed effectively.

Symptoms of a failing Washer Drain Pump Assembly include:

  • Water not draining from the washer, leaving clothes wet
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as humming or grinding
  • Error codes on the washer's display indicating drainage issues
  • Water leaks from the pump area or from the washer
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle due to drainage problems

Causes of a bad drain pump assembly can include obstructions from debris, wear and tear on the pump motor over time, electrical issues such as short circuits, or damage from improper installation or usage.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and some Kenmore models.

Note: This pump has been redesigned and the mounting plate is no longer required. It now mounts directly to the base of the washer.

For Whirlpool Washer Drain Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM18025998)

1 Answer

Hello Dominic, if the manufacturer only lists it as an assembly, then that is the only way you can get it. Thanks!

Hello Heidi, You would want to check your drain to make sure that the pump is not clogged up and that the pump spins freely. Also check to make sure that your drain is clear. If the drain pump does not spin freely then either something has gotten clogged in it or the bearings have gone out on the pump WP35-6780.

Suzy A for Model Number CAV2004AWW

The pump was jammed on our Magic Chef top loading washer model # CAV2004AWW. We ordered and received replacement part 35-7680 from you (your part # ap4373022). Compared to the original pump, it's missing a round, black, flat metal plate (maybe for mounting) that fits between the silver round piece that holds the drive belt and the white molded plastic piece. The old black metal plate looks in fine condition but we are unable to remove it. Even if we could, we are unable to remove the silver metal plate on the new part that attaches onto the white molded piece. Is your part OEM (original equipment)? What's the purpose of the black metal plate? And should we just mount the new part without the black plate?

Hello Suzy, The part that was shipped is a OEM part for your unit. They stopped putting the mounting plate on the new pump motors because it is not a necessary part.

Kathy, At this time we are not aware of any recalls, or abnormally noisy drain pumps WP35-6780 on Maytag washer products. You'd be surprised at how much noise a paper clip, hair pin or a stick pin or any foreign object will make once it gets into a drain pump. You may also want to check the condition of the drive belt WP22003483, and make sure the motor assembly moves freely on the slide plate.

Hi Brian. Look at the back with a flashlight and mirror at the hoses and at the house water valve connection. It could be leaking from there and coming out the front of the washer. If The pressure switch is defective or the tubing going to it is blocked, then remove it from the pressure switch and blow back into towards the tub. If you blew out a restriction, then it may cause the pressure switch not to shut off on a proper fill and overfilled the unit. You need to run the unit with the front cover off and lift the corrugated drain hoses to find the pinhole leak. Or if the pump part # WP35-6780 is leaking. Look up into the bottom of the tub to see if the tub seal is leaking. Good luck. Thank You.

Hello Maria. No, there is no way to install the drive belt wrong on this model. The "v" goes into the grove and the belt loops all three pulleys.

Hello Raj, The easiest way to access this pump is through the access panel in the back. Loosen one screw and remove the other three. Set the panel aside and reach inside and remove the hose clamps from both of the hoses to the pump. These are normally 5/16 inch hex head on the clamps. The three bolts securing it to the main base are 3/8 inch hex. The motor is on a spring loaded mount so you only have to flip the belt off. The pump will lift out now. After you put the new pump in and connect the hoses, don't forget to reinstall the belt before you try the machine. The belt will just "roll" onto the pulleys by rotating them.

Hello Ian. It sounds like the thrust bearing 12002213 may be bad on the unit. Try turning it by hand and see if it releases the brake assembly properly. If not, replace the thrust bearing kit.

Hello John. If the washer pump WP35-6780 is bad and is dragging the motor down and over heating the motor, it can cause the unit to stop. Hope this helps.
