The Direct Drive Washer Pump is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is responsible for pumping water out of the washer during the drain cycle, ensuring that the washing machine drains efficiently after each wash.

Causes of a bad direct drive washer pump can include blockages from debris or foreign objects, wear and tear from regular use, damage to the pump impeller, or electrical issues affecting the pump motor. Over time, these factors can hinder the pump's performance, leading to operational issues.

Symptoms of a bad direct drive washer pump include:

  • Washer not draining water properly
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as grinding or humming
  • Water leaks from the bottom of the washer
  • Washing machine stopping mid-cycle due to drainage issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

1 Answer

Tim, The drain pump would be the first place to start with there being a pet hair issue with the clothes put into the unit.

Hello Robert. Check the lid strike and if it is good, then it could be the timer or the motor.

Washer fills up, washes clothes, then sits, doesn't drain . I thought it was the water pump but now I wonder since it's not leaking water under it like it say's in some of these comments. I could lay the drain hose down almost to the floor to drain the water out into a bucket so there wasn't anything stuck in the hose.. like I thought might be. Does this sound like the pump to you? The video is great ,and very helpful. I'm not in good health anymore so I can't get down to work on it so the video is so helpful to show my grandson how to help me.

Hello David. It sounds like the clutch may need to be replaced. You need to check and see if it is bad on the unit.

Carl for Model Number Kenmore 60 Series Model 110

I recently replaced the leaky direct pump drive in my Kenmore 60 Series Model 110 washer. I have to admit that I used an aftermarket part because I was driven by cost. The pump works fine, however I was unable to install the bottom T-clamp because the feet of the aftermarket pump were a little different in length from the OEM part. The pump is secured by the top T-clamp after some finagling. Is it possible to install the bottom T-clamp, or is the direct drive pump secure enough with only the top T-clamp?

1 Answer

Hello Carl. Sorry, being you did not use an OEM part, we do not have information on that issue. I would suggest using both clamps though.

Sudden stop, You will want to pull the brake and check the shoes on it as this would be the most likely cause for the issue that you are having.

Tammy for Model Number atw4475vq0

Washer machine all the sudden stopped spinning leaving the clothes soaked. The washer was not overloaded and I even tried to put 1/2 load in and it still wasn't spinning at the end. I also did a test when there was nothing in the washer and put it on spin cycle the washer would spin. It seemed to be draining the water out of the tub but when I moved the tub around I could hear water behind it. Last night I purchase a whirlpool direct drive washer pump thinking it may be the pump?? Please help! Thank you!

1 Answer

Hello Tammy. The water noise is the balance ring and that is normal. You will need to check the clutch 285785 out in the unit. If it is bad, the unit will not spin out.
