The Direct Drive Washer Pump is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is responsible for pumping water out of the washer during the drain cycle, ensuring that the washing machine drains efficiently after each wash.

Causes of a bad direct drive washer pump can include blockages from debris or foreign objects, wear and tear from regular use, damage to the pump impeller, or electrical issues affecting the pump motor. Over time, these factors can hinder the pump's performance, leading to operational issues.

Symptoms of a bad direct drive washer pump include:

  • Washer not draining water properly
  • Unusual noises during the drain cycle, such as grinding or humming
  • Water leaks from the bottom of the washer
  • Washing machine stopping mid-cycle due to drainage issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer Pump (Part Number: OEM18024330)

Ray for Model Number 11020172001

I have the Kenmore commercial coin op washer, model # 11020172001. Washer stops in the mid cycle and it won't drain the water leaving it half full of water and just stops and sits there. The first time that happened after I replaced the drive block, I tried to test it, opened and closed the lid after washer stopped mid cycle, it gives me a buzzing/humming sound for about 15 seconds and it washed normal again...I also replaced the lid switch assembly thought that might be the fix..but today the same problem started again. Please help.

Ray, First check the drain pump WP3363394 Make sure it's not clogged, jammed or seizing up. If the pump is OK, start at the timer WP3955668, since the lid switch is new and operates, and the motor does run in the wash cycle, check or replace the timer. The contacts inside the timer could be worn or damaged causing the motor to hum and overheat in the drain/spin cycle.

Bill, There are 2 clips that hold the pump onto the motor. Once you remove the clips the pump should slide off the motor shaft, If it will not then you may have to use a rubber mallet and working your way on either side then tap the pump off the motor shaft.

Had foul smell in washer. After removing the rear drain hose, I discovered it was the rancid water still in the hose. Thought there might be an obstruction or coin preventing water from draining. I took off the case and looked through the water pump and hoses, but everything seems fine. The pump seems to turn fairly easily, so not sure what the problem might be. When the washer is running, the pump seems to work fine. Should I just replace the pump to eliminate a potential factor to solve the problem or does it should like another issue causing the problem? Thanks for your help.

Pat, If the pump appears to be turning fine and there have been no issues with the draining of the unit, then the pump should be good. You will want to run a cleaning cycle in which you run the unit with the hottest water possible with nothing in it and put either bleach or white vinegar in it. This will help to get any residues inside the tub to get the washer cleansed. It is a good idea to do this at least once a month. You could also get a product called washer magic which cleans washers out also by doing the same process. The part number for the washer magic is TJ131.

Hello Rick. If the stand pipe is over flowing, there has to be a restriction in the stand pipe. The volume of water that comes out of these pumps is no where near enough to cause a 2" pipe to back up unless there is a blockage in the pipe restricting the flow of water.

Missouri Moore for Model Number LXR9445JQ1

I am smelling a sewage smell in my washing machine when it is washing only, usually just the wash cycle. I have taken it completely apart twice--removing tub, etc. There seems to be a minimal amount of grey water in the very bottom of the tub and in the short drain hose to the pump. It smells and is gunky. I've cleaned it, but the problem persists. Sometime ago, I had a small piece of laundry get sucked to the pump when one of the lint filters had come off. No draining, burning smell. I tracked the problem to the pump and removed said object. I don't have any backflow from the standpipe, so it seems maybe all but a bit is draining out or flowing back in from drain pipe? All I see online talks about a pump not pumping at all. My works fine otherwise. I also have no leaking on the floor either. So, can the pump somehow be bad and allow a bit of water to remain? I'm trying to decide if the pump needs replaced or if the problem is something else. In a working machine between washes is there water in the drain pipe at all? Thanks for your help.

Missouri Moore, This unit would have water left in the drain during and after the wash cycle completes. You will want to try to clean the unit with a product like washer magic which is designed to clean out the gunk that can build in a washer.

Frederick, Yes the drain pump would most likely be the cause for the unit to not go through the drain cycle. The pump could turn one way then lock up when spinning the other during drain.

Tom, The most likely cause for the unit not spinning would be a faulty clutch. You will want to remove the clutch and check the pads on the lining. Most likely they are damaged and the clutch would need to be replaced.
