The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This assembly is responsible for circulating water through the dishwasher during the wash cycle, ensuring that dishes are thoroughly cleaned.

Over time, the pump and motor assembly can fail due to wear and tear, debris buildup, or electrical issues. Regular use, along with exposure to hard water, can cause the components to degrade, leading to performance problems.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not draining from the dishwasher
  • Error codes indicating pump or motor issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Pump And Motor Assembly (Part Number: OEM17886864)

1 Answer

MIchael, Thanks for the question!!! Checking for a 120vac supply to the motor should answer this question. If you have voltage the motor is the issue. No voltage would likely mean a failed control.

Repair requires removal of dishwasher cabinet from under kitchen-counter to replace its circulation pump-motor assembly. Blind installation showing copper tubing water supply and probably direct wiring of a/c power. Is it typical for such installations to provide loop of tubing and wiring to allow sliding out of washer cabinet while it's still attached to the tubing and direct wire? Can this be examined from below washer at lower front panel to determine status of installation "slack" that may have been provided?

1 Answer

Rhody, the slack can be viewed from underneath the dishwasher. It is recommended that when moving the dishwasher around that the power supply and water supply be turned off prior to moving it around. It is common for there to be just enough slack to be able to move the dishwasher out but you will still want to be very careful and move it out slowly.

some one started the dishwasher (not me so I did not hear it start the cycle). about 1 to 1 1/2 hrs later I was in the kitchen and heard the dishwasher- sounded like the pump was running- I decided it should be done so hit the cancel/drain button. it continued the same noise so I opened the door to shut it off. the next morning i checked and the dishes were not clean and there was most of the detergent was still there-but the detergent door had opened. so not sure if it is the fill valve or pump/moter or both- or something else.

1 Answer

SAM, Restart that dishwasher and give it time to normally fill then open the door and see if there is water. Make sure the float is down with no obstructions.

Matt R. for Model Number KUDS01FLSS3

I just bought and installed a Circulation Pump and Motor Assembly from Appliance part pros last night. As I reinstalled the thermistor I noticed it was fairly loose after installing and twisting it into the locking position. There was some mention about the new unit I purchased Monday having a smaller thermistor housing or something. I am wondering how my thermistor is potentially loose with a smaller housing. In my old unit is was also not very snug as far as fit went either. My question is if I order a new replacement will this new one fit into the new circulation pump assembly with out any issues and not leak? If there are two different sizes when ordering how does one tell which one is the correct one to order? Thank you

1 Answer

Hello Matt, The parts that fit into the bottom of the sump assembly are normally a bit loose. The only thing that fits snuggly is the "O" ring around it that prevents water leaks. If there are any leaks, replacing the thermistor and "O" ring as an assembly should take care of it.
