The Pump and Motor Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool dishwashers. This assembly is responsible for circulating water through the dishwasher during the wash cycle, ensuring that dishes are thoroughly cleaned.

Over time, the pump and motor assembly can fail due to wear and tear, debris buildup, or electrical issues. Regular use, along with exposure to hard water, can cause the components to degrade, leading to performance problems.

Symptoms of a bad pump and motor assembly include:

  • Dishes not being cleaned properly
  • Unusual noises during the wash cycle
  • Water not draining from the dishwasher
  • Error codes indicating pump or motor issues

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Tom for Model Number Whirlpool DU1055XTV80

Dishwasher is not getting dishes clean and heating element seems to be very hot during wash (more steam than usual coming from door vent, "sizzles" if I open the door mid-cycle and water hits it). Never really paid attention to how hot it gets before so this might be normal. Also, seem to be running slightly louder than normal with a "swoosh" sound every 3-4 seconds. Again, don't really pay attention to the sound when it works so this may always be the case! Drains fine. Not sure if its a temp control issue with the heating element that is steaming away the water, or a circulation pump issue that is not putting enough water on the heating element.

Tom, You're very close to correct. The issue is most likely lack of water in the tub. This will allow the heater to seem extremely hot, and reduces the wash ability, and effectiveness of the detergent. Try this, start the dishwasher on a regular wash cycle, allow the machine to fill and wash for 5 minutes. Unlatch the door, remove the lower rack and look at the water level in the bottom of the tub. The water level should be within 1/8 inch of the bottom of the heater element, if not, the water level is too low and causing the issue. In most cases, it requires the replacement of the water inlet valve W10648041

Hello Kelvin, Check the flood switch and float. If it is in the "up" position, it turns power off to everything but the drain pump. If this is good, double check that you turned the water back on. If you did, check the wiring connections to the water valve.

Jim, For the issue that you having you could either replace the complete pump and motor assembly W10782773 which would have the seal with it or you could replace just the impeller kit 8193951A which also has the seal.

Our dishwasher all of a sudden stopped draining. I found the drain valve torn and I replaced it. Same issue. I tested the drain pump and with my ohm meter across the two terminals it reads 0 on the Rx1 scale. The impeller turns fine with slight resistance so I assume it is ok. Also I ran it detached from the housing. Water drains out the bottom if I remove the hose and I blew all the hoses out with air. I haven't found anything restricting in the sump either. Water seems to fill fine. Any other thoughts?

Hello Barry. If there is power to the drain pump, and it does not drain, you will need to replace the pump WP661658 on the unit.

Hello Richard. You want to make sure the water level is good in the unit. If it is low, replace the water valve. If all the filters are clean, and the valve is good, replace the circulation on the unit.

Hi- After reading other questions, I see mine is similar, but your answers aren't specific enough for my concerns! Hopefully I can get clear answers... After disassembling the unit and cleaning the chopper assembly (for the 4th time in as many weeks), I notice the impeller gear (black plastic) on the pump is badly worn. After inspection, the O-ring could use replacing, the Circulation pump works well and is quiet, the strainer/chopper does not appear to be damaged. (I'm currently running the unit w/o the chopper/strainer installed.) What's the best value: the entire assembly AP4434617 or just the Pump AP4434021 ? Do you sell part #22 in either exploded view in your parts diagram? Also, I've noticed that the timer for the wash cycles is often running long (stuck on 42 minutes for much longer than 42 minutes) is the circuit board suspect? Do you sell that as well? Thanks, MAP

Hello RobK. Check and see if something is stuck in the impeller or chopper on the unit. As for the door springs, you may need to replace the cables 8194001 on the unit.
