This is an ice maker recirculation pump assembly. This part includes a motor and pump that sends water from the reservoir over the top of the evaporator plate. This forms the slab of ice that will then drop onto the cutting grid to make ice cubes. In the event that the appliance is not making ice, it could be because this part has gone bad. Some users report the pump becoming calcified and then no longer working. Whether this happens or not can depend upon the water quality. Unplug the appliance from the electrical outlet prior to attempting to replace this part. Wear work gloves for safety. This particular recirculation pump is compatible with ice cube makers that are manufactured by the Whirlpool, Kenmore, KitchenAid, and Scotsman brands. This part is sold individually and is sourced directly from the manufacturer.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Ice Maker Recirculation Pump Assembly (Part Number: OEM18020001)

Jose, If the unit is not making ice then the grid will get warmer than normal because there is normally ice dropping onto it to cut it. If there is water running across the evaporator plate but just not freezing then you will want to check to see if the compressor is running. If it is not then the start relay would likely be the issue. If there is power and the relay is good with compressor running then it would be a sealed system type issue and will need service.

Greg for Model Number KUIA18PNLS11

My ice maker stopped making ice a couple of weeks ago. There was no water running over the freeze plate, so I figured I needed to replace the recirculating pump. In the processing of changing the part I noticed that there was a loosed wire on the water level sensor at its modular connection. It could not be reattached, so I picked up a sensor. I cleaned the unit and replace both parts. Still no water circulating over the freeze plate. Considering cutting out the wires on modular connections to the recirculating pump and hardwiring them together. This is a last resort and I am open to suggestions.

Hello Greg. If the wiring harness is good, you will need to order and replace the control board WPW10141364 on the unit. It sends the power to the pump.

Dale, The voltage to the motor, should be "line" voltage 110 - 120 VAC when the control activates the circuit. The pump motor winding resistance should be approximately 19 ohms resistance across the blue and white wires (+/- 10 %).

Troy, You will want to make sure that the water is turned on, if it is then check to make sure that the water line is not kinked. If this checks ok then test to make sure that there is power getting to the water valve and make sure that water is coming through the valve by disconnecting the water line on the icemaker side.

Hello Ralph. Check and see if the compressor is running. If not, you will need to check the relay overload on the unit and check the control. If it is running, then It sounds like you have sealed system failure on the unit and you will need an HVAC tech for the unit. Thanks.
