For Whirlpool Ice Maker (Part Number: OEM12405033)

Ted W for Model Number MSD 2454GRQ

My icemaker stopped working and we first noticed it wasn't kicking out the cubes when water ran all over the tray and into the freezer and froze. The dispenser stopped turning - found out when I took it apart it was full of solid ice. I took all of it apart including the icemaker. the tray and dispenser were frozen together. The icemaker, ( from you in Jan 2015) had a layer of ice in the bottom locking it down. Thawed everything out, re-installed, after about three hours water started and never stopped. Came out the door flowing like crazy. Raised the bale and it stopped. Question - could the freeze up have affected the cut off quantity?

Hello Ted. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the icemaker is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Freeze up shouldn't affect the water overfilling.

Hello Barry. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Kathleen. If the icemaker is overfilling, replace the water valve. However, if the icemaker is leaking, just replace the icemaker.

Hello Mark, This problem is going to be a combination of a water valve 61005626 not opening fully, (cause of hollow cubes), and the icemakers' WPW10190972 internal contacts not making, (heater not releasing the cubes from the mold).

Dennis, You will want to check the fill tube in the freezer compartment to make sure that the fill tube is not frozen. This would be the most likely cause with the icemaker not getting water into it.
