The Moisture Sensor is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. This part detects the moisture level in the clothing during the drying cycle, allowing the dryer to adjust the drying time accordingly.

Causes of a bad moisture sensor can include regular wear and tear, buildup of lint or residue, or physical damage.

Symptoms of a bad moisture sensor include:

  • Clothes taking longer to dry or coming out still damp
  • The dryer not stopping when clothes are dry
  • The dryer shutting off prematurely
  • Inconsistent drying results

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Moisture Sensor (Part Number: OEM9282438)

Hello Rob. It sounds like the gas coils 279834 may be failing in the unit. If so, it will cause the issue you are having with the unit.

Robr, While the sensor would be a possible issue, you will want to check to make sure that the venting from the blower wheel to the outside of the home is clear and no obstructions as this would cause the moisture to not be able to escape. This will cause the unit to not dry properly.

Hello Karyn, The only thing that could cause the clothes to not dry is if the exhaust duct is stopped up. You need to check the air output outside to make sure the ducting isn't clogged or crimped off before exiting the home.

Is the Moisture Sensor (AP3094143) a part all by itself - or are there other associated parts that go with that also? I am trying to avoid buying just the sensor - and then coming back for other parts one by one. If i know what goes together with the sensor - then i might as well by them all together. I replaced the moisture control circuit board (AP3713177 - purchased from you) - now the timed dry is working (which wasn't working earlier) - but auto dry is not working (wasn't working earlier also) - which i believe could be because of the moisture sensor.

JP, The moisture sensor is the block that the sensor bars sit in and the sensor bars themselves. There are not other parts associated with this part.

Joe, Yes the High limit thermostat could be a cause of the issue, but you'd want to install the thermal cut off kit W11050897 per the factory recommendations. You're also going to need to check and clean the exhaust vent system and hood of any lint and debris in the system.

Hello Doug. Try flexing the clip more to apply more tension when installing the part. This should tighten the fitting on the unit.

Chris, Based on the description, it sounds like the door switch may be the issue with your dryer.

Hello Bob. Check the coils 279834 and see if they test good. You can test the coils using a multi-meter MA-DM1. The two prong coil will read 1,000-1,300 ohms, and the three prong coil will read 1,300-1,400 ohms across prongs 1&2, and 500-600 ohms across prongs 1&3. Test the coils after running the dryer for about 10 minutes. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello George. The model number you provided is not working. You will need to remove the back panel and unclip the retainer clips and remove the wires off the sensor bar terminals. Then remove the old sensor bars from the unit and install the new ones in revers order.
