Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Turbidity Sensor (Part Number: OEM18071610)

Troy, The Sanitized light blinking would be caused by an issue with one of the following issues: 1.Door opened during final rinse or dry. 2. Incoming water too cold. 3. Heating problem 4. Thermistor/OWI sensor problem. 5. Intermittent door switch/ latch connection. 6.Diverter problem prevented water from heating in final rinse (plastic tub models only). 7. Line voltage too low to heat fast and .enough. 8.Air pressure surges in dishwasher due to washing with high suds causes brief opening of door switch contacts during final rinse. In some of these you will need to refer to the tech sheet to check the service error codes table.

Hello Edward. If it works sometimes and sometimes it does not, it sounds like the control board is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit.

I have a Feb 2007 Whirlpool; it came with the house. It powers up fine-when I fill it and you hit drain, it drains rapidly and sounds like a normal operating dishwasher. It will not start up with the base full and ready to go; it makes a faint whirring or humming noise and acts like it is trying to start the big pump and start washing! I tried plugging and unplugging. I removed the sprayer , basket and cleaned out the grinder trough. It makes no smell. It just acts stalled. Any thoughts or things to check? Thank you Ed

Eddie, Based on the checks that have been made, the most likely cause will be a motor that is faulty.

Johanna, This sensor WPW10705575 is a turbidity sensor and does have a Thermistor in it. You can test the thermistor from the control board on the P12 connector pins 1 to Pin 3. The resistance at 77 degrees would be 46K to 52K ohms at 77 degrees.

The unit is not draining at all even when I hit the cancel and drain button. Drain hose is not blocked. I have cleaned the filter and checked for blockage. I don't see a check valve and not sure this model has one. Once I manually drained the machine, I disconnected the drain pump and pushed the drain/cancel button and the impeller does spin on the pump. Can the pump motor just be weak without enough torque to pump the water, but still spin in air?

1 Answer

Hello Brad, The check valve on this unit is in the drain hose WPW10545278. If it is not stuck you should check for clogs in the drain line. If connected to a disposer make sure the "knock out" has been removed. If nothing is located, the drain pump could be the issue if 120Vac is present during drain.

I have a Kenmore Dishwasher. When I run the dishwasher, it cleans fine but I am always left with standing water on the bottom. I then hit Cancel/Drain once or twice to drain the water. To try and diagnose the myself, I completed the following. Tighten all the screws on the door. Removed and cleaned the filter, checked and cleaned impeller, Removed the drain hose, raised the drain hose higher to the bottom of counter. I watched the water drain with considerable force into my sink, so there is no blockage. I cleaned and removed the check valve. I cleaned the float. Ran diagnostics by hitting heat dry, normal, Heat dry & Normal. it cycles through and seems fine. I though it may have been the Optical Water Indicator, but that only senses dirt in the water and not the water level. Is there a sensor for determining water level? Is it a control board Issue? What am I missing?

1 Answer

Steffan, You will want to check to make sure that the check valve on the drain is in place and not allowing water to come back into the unit. If the check valve is good then it is most likely not running through the drain long enough which would be a control board issue.
