For Whirlpool Gas Range Safety Valve (Part Number: OEM18042801)

Duane for Model Number wfg114swqf

My daughters oven will not light. when you turn the oven on, the ignitor glows and you hear the gas valve open and you hear and smell gas. but it doesnt light. i have replaced the ignitor and there is no change. if you light the oven with a match it will heat up and work until it cycles off to maintain the temp, but then when it tries to relight to maintain the heat, again the ignitor glows and gas valve opens, but no flame. stove is just over a year old. is it the safety valve? i have removed the burner tube, all clear, i have removed the gas lines, all clear, i have removed the orfice, clear. what else is there besides the safety valve?

Dave, No, it's not likely a faulty safety valve. It's more likely to be a fuel / air mixture issue. Remove and check the burner tube 74003960 Check to make sure all the openings are clean and open, the air shutter is adjusted properly (1/2 to 3/4 of the way open, then fine tune the mixture). Then check that the range hasn't been pushed back into the cabinet too far, and that the bottom drawer, and base aren't out of alignment or blocked by something not allowing the proper make up air into the oven for a proper fuel air mixture, and proper burn.

Hello Jeff! You will want to order kit part number WPW10032030 if you do not have an orifice with a marking "56" on it, to convert the oven burner correctly. You will need to flip the cap on the regulator to LP also, you can refer to your use and care guide for reference. Thanks!

Long story short, I bought a forclosure home and this oven was included and very clean so I would like to use it but I am having issues with the oven staying lit. From the START this is what the sypthoms have been and work thats been done: 1.When "Preheating" oven Ignitor would glow, gas would light, and oven would start heating up. It would only stay lit for aprox 4-5 minutes then would go out with ignitor still glowing for a bit before it stopped glowing as well. The display would still read "Pre" as if is was still pre-heating. It seems to only heat up to 250 degrees F 2. I replaced the Ignitor with a new unit-----No Change 3. I replaced the Temp Probe with a new unit----No Change The top 5 burners have no issues with staying on and the only other issue is that the lower RH burner doesn't ignite on its own but once lit it will stay on. I am at a loss and need the oven to work. I do not have the funds for a whole new unit so if anyone has any ideas or suggestions I would be very grateful! Thank you for taking the time to read. Hello Corey. If the power to the igniter is stopping, then the board 318010300 is bad. Problem is, This part has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part. Sorry.

Richard, The DSI spark module WPW10331686 has a "flame safety circuit" built into the board circuitry. " Once the gas has ignited, the flame safety circuit will monitor the flame at the burner to make sure it is present. If a flame is not present at the burner, The DSI will allow the igniter to spark for 4 to 5 seconds. After three attempts to ignite, the DSI will perform an oven system "lockout". You'll have to cancel the cycle and start all over again. The gas valve WPW10293048 solenoids have to "open" before the ignition spark occurs, of course it's somewhat instantaneous for the valve solenoid to open and the sparking to occur and ignite the gas, and flame is established.

Eric, With the unit lighting for 30 seconds then going off, the issue would most likely be in the oven safety valve.

I have a Whirlpool oven that is acting up. I have never seen one have an issue like this does. Oven starts and comes on but when you watch the flame it's good and blue (Natural Gas) like it should be. Watching the flame the flame lifts clear off of the burner tube and then back to normal then back off (it seems to pulsate every second back and forth and you can here the gas pressure increase and then decrease) I would tend to think I have a bad regulator but the top burners on stove top are fine! They don't fluctuate? Could the problem be the safety valve? This stove is only about 3 to 4 years old. Please advise

Hello John, This could be as simple as an air shutter adjustment issue. It could also have something to do with having the panels off so you can see the burner since this changes the air flow in the unit and will cause things to occur that do not occur with all of the panels in their proper positions. As long as the flames are blue with a minimum of orange and yellow tipping, all of the fuel is burning so it will not be a gas valve issue.

Hello. If there is no power coming to the igniter, you will need to check the wiring and replace the control board if it is bad in the unit.

Hello S.N., I a situation such as this, you need to do a thorough inspection of the burner area. If the burner looks stopped up or deteriorating or in any way malformed or defective, the burner should be replaced. The ignitor and the safety valve should be replaced any way. The burner is of primary concern because if it isn't dropping gas on the ignitor properly, too much gas will accumulate before the gas actually ignites. If it were mine, I would replace the safety valve, the ignitor, and the burner. I would strongly recommend the same for any of my customers.
