Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module (Part Number: OEM12050799)

Thomas, You will want to find the spark igniter for the burner in question and watch where the spark goes. If it sparks closer to the bottom you have a cracked spark ignitor. If it is consistent and sparks at the top and towards the burner head then i think a good cleaning with a stiff bristle brush on the burner head should do the trick.

Charlie, You will want to check the ignition switch for the grill burner to make sure that the switch has continuity in the light position. If it does not then the switch is bad. The part number for the igniter would be WP71002179.

Rick, The L would be the line feed into the spark module and the N is the neutral feed. The igniters will plug into the other 2 terminals.

Joe, The spark module isn't the issue, it works properly based on your information. The problem will most likely be in the ignition switch WP7403P190-60 on the valve or the wiring from the valve to the module.

Sara, In most cases when a spark module is bad, the top burner igniters will not spark. You always want to test to see if the ignition switches and igniter and wires are good by doing a continuity test on them. The ignition switches are tested in the light position. If they check ok then the module would be the issue.

Tr, Yes the spark module 1430322 could be the issue, but there are other components to check, first. Check and make sure the venturi holes in the side and top of the burner are clean and clear of any debris 74005189. Make sure the burner venturi tube is aligned to the igniter and seated in the slot(s) on the burner bracket WP3801F403-80. You'll also want to check and ensure the igniter is not loose in the bottom of the bay. If it's loose you'll need to tighten the mounting nuts on the bottom of the bay, you could have an intermittent ground, causing an irratic spark or ignition.

CK, First, make sure you remove power to the cooktop(turn the breaker off or unplug the power cord). You'll need to remove the cover plate on the end of the plenum assembly, in some cases, you may need to turn off the gas supply and remove the gas line and regulator. Once the cover plate is removed you'll have access to the spark module 1430322 and can dismount , and replace it.
