The Spark Module Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges. It is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module sends electrical signals to the igniters, creating the spark that lights the gas for cooking.

Over time, the spark module can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or normal wear and tear. When the spark module becomes faulty, it can lead to various problems with igniting the burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or taking a long time to light
  • No clicking sound when turning the burner knob
  • Burners only lighting intermittently
  • Visible sparks or arcing from the module

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This part is only compatible with serial numbers starting with 21 and up on model 8351VV.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Spark Module Kit (Part Number: OEM12030111)

David Chorba for Model Number Jenn Air Gas Cooktop JGD8130ADS

One burner will not ignite (doesn't spark). The other three igniters spark fine. When I switch the burner units (each unit has two burners) from one side to the other, the same burner will not ignite on the opposite side, but the other burner unit works fine. I ordered and replaced the ignition unit for that burner, but it did not fix the problem. It still doesn't spark. All other burners spark in unison and work properly. I was told it might be the spark module, but that doesn't make sense to me since it is independent of either side. Could it be the Block Terminal? Any suggestions?

Kirk, There are 6 (six) terminals on the spark module. The four(4) smaller 1/8 in. terminals are for the igniter wires, one to each igniter. The two(2) larger 1/4 in. terminals are for the line(120 VAC) from the igniter switches and neutral (N) wire to the line cord. The smaller terminals have no specific terminal location location on the module(on this style ignition system) But the L and N need to be on the proper terminals on the module. If the igniters continue to spark after you re check the wiring, you'll need to access the igniter switches on the the burner valves and check to make sure the switches are all in the "open" position when the valves are in the "OFF" position. If the switches check OK, the wiring is OK and proper, then you'll need to replace the spark module.

Mary, You may need the spark module 8215557, but with your particular complaint, you need to check the igniter switches WPW10180490 on the burner valves first. If one or more switch is stuck "closed" (on position) or a wire is shorted to chassis ground, the igniters will continue to spark.

Hello Bryan. No, the unit is designed to let out gas as soon as the knob is turned, and has to be on lite for the unit to lite. If the child turns the knob, gas will come out.

Hello Cgaretto, The spark module would be what allows the unit to click and ignite. You could also check your ignitor to ensure that the ignitor is drawing between 3.2 and 3.56 amps.

Hello Leo, Check to make sure that your switches are on the gas valves properly and that there are no pinched wires. Also ohm out switches to make sure that they are good. If this checks ok then you may need to replace the switches or you may have received a bad spark module.
