The Spark Module Kit is an OEM part for Whirlpool ranges. It is responsible for generating the spark needed to ignite the gas burners on the cooktop. The spark module sends electrical signals to the igniters, creating the spark that lights the gas for cooking.

Over time, the spark module can fail due to electrical issues, exposure to moisture, or normal wear and tear. When the spark module becomes faulty, it can lead to various problems with igniting the burners.

Symptoms of a bad spark module include:

  • Burners not lighting or taking a long time to light
  • No clicking sound when turning the burner knob
  • Burners only lighting intermittently
  • Visible sparks or arcing from the module

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

NOTE: This part is only compatible with serial numbers starting with 21 and up on model 8351VV.

For Whirlpool Spark Module Kit (Part Number: OEM12030111)

Bubba, You may have a broken or damaged blue or white wire to the element, or a faulty relay on the ERC / Clock WP5760M305-60. If you have access to a multimeter, you can remove the element, attach the meter leads to the wire terminals, and select a broil setting, you should read 120VAC across the wires, if not you'll need to check the wires for damage and breaks. Then check the E/BR terminal on the back of the ERC for 120 VAC to chassis ground when broil is selected, no 120 VAC would indicate a faulty relay and you'll need to replace the ERC.

Mr.O, There is no ground circuit in the module. The burner electrode, is in essence the ground. thats how the spark is achieved to ignite the gas. When the voltage at the end of the electrode seeks to complete the circuit the burner cap and base act as the ground, and a spark occurs. The high voltage outputs on the module are the four 3/16 inch terminals across the top of the module. All four produce the same voltage at the same time, when power is applied to the module. Good Luck

Hello Wesley, You have either lost a ground or the start switch on the gas valve is bad. You didn't say definitely if the knob for that burner is making the other ignitors spark or not. If it isn't, the start switch WP74006955 is the issue. If the other ignitors are sparking when the bad burner valve is turned on, you have lost the ground to that ignitor.

Hello Ly, The first thing you should check for is a lost ground that could have been caused by a spill. You have to think "big picture" when doing this as many of the ground connections are where metal components of the unit are screwed together. The next thing to check is the start switch. The heat it is exposed to plus the possibility of spills getting into the start switch can cause a complete failure on a gas cooktop. The next thing I would suspect is the spark module.

Hello, The ignitor 74007498 should turn almost white hot. It can be tested with a clamp on amp meter. It should read from 3.2 to 3.6 amps. If this reading is low, the gas valve will never open and the flame cannot occur. If the proper current is present, the gas valve WP74006427 is the problem.
