The Door Handle Spring is an OEM replacment part for Whirlpool built-in dishwashers. It applies inward tension to assist in opening the dishwasher door after a cycle completes. Proper spring force prevents accidental openings during active washing and rinsing stages.

Symptoms of a failing door handle spring can include:

  • Difficulty opening the dishwasher door at the end of a cycle
  • Potential opening of the door unintentionally during operation
  • Sagging or loose door that does not securely latch in closed position

Causes related to the natural fatigue of the coiled wire over thousands of usage cycles. Loss of elastic properties compromises the spring's ability to counteract the weight and seal force of the heavy dishwasher door panel.

This OEM Whirlpool replacement spring restores smooth, convenient door access at appropriate times. Compatible also with some KitchenAid models.

Sherrie for Model Number KUDR01TJBL0 (or cap O);

I have replaced the door handle on the Kitchenaid dishwasher, but it appears a spring should be added. I have the new springs but nothing I can find -- diagram which is worthless--tells me how to attach the springs. When we removed the old handle there were no springs attached. I've put on the new handle but it doesn't latch. In the chat session the technician wrote: "The spring attaches to the latch and the handle of the latch assembly on the tabs." But I'm sorry, I can't see how that it is done. I would like some kind of picture, if possible. Thanks,

Hello Sherrie, The only illustration I could locate is hand drawn. There is one on page 15 and one on page 16 of the service manual. I would have sent you the illustrations but they cannot be displayed in this format. I apologize but, they can only be shared via e-mail.

Hi Denny. Make sure your unit is level side to side , front to back. All leveling legs touching the floor. This is the most common door latch failure issue cause. Then replace the latch assy. Part # 8193830 and you shouldn't need the 2- spring Part # WP8268540 to operate as manufacturer designs. Thank You.
