The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly includes two switches, a bracket, and a fuse. It is responsible for detecting whether the lid is securely shut, allowing the washer to proceed with the selected wash cycles.

Causes of a faulty or damaged lid switch assembly can include regular use, wear and tear, or electrical malfunctions. These factors can result in issues such as the washer not starting or stopping mid-cycle, safety concerns if the washer operates with the lid open, or error codes indicating lid switch failure.

Symptoms of a bad lid switch assembly may include:

  • The washer not starting or not responding when the lid is closed
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle or not completing the wash cycle
  • Error codes indicating a problem with the lid switch

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Hi Stephen. Is your belts and pulleys slipping against one another? The belt kit is part # 12112425, also clean your pulleys innner area's where the belt ride with alcohol. There is a stop lug directly underneath the bottom drive shaft. It has a phillips screw with it, it has to be tight and the lug properly adjusted also. If your timer is sending 120vac to the motor, then it is possible that your motor switch or windings are weak also. Is there anything stuck in between the inner basket and outer tub? This will slow the operation down also. Is your pump clear? Remove all belts and spin the pump, motor for free turning. The transmission pulley should turn counterclockwise, lifting the brake and turn the tub free if there is not anything stuck in there also. The motor part # is 12002353. Best of luck. Thank you.

Hello Earl. When you turn it to the area where the water should be returning back to the tub, do you hear the motor running? If it is, you could have a issue with the diverter valve 201168. Thanks!

Hello Michael. According to the model and serial number you provided, 12001908 is the correct lid switch for your washer. It does not use the fuse. You will need to replace the lid switch kit. Hope this helps.

Hello Joe. Did you change the lid switch assembly, or just the fuse? If you are just changing the fuse, you will need to replace the lid switch assembly. If you changed the assembly, you will need to set it right, so the switches make up properly. When the lid closes, it should press in on the large black switch and not on the micro-switch. Hope this helps.
