The Switch is an OEM part for Whirlpool microwaves. It controls the turning on and off of power to the microwave during cooking cycles as well as detects positions within cycles to signal appropriate actuations of the microwave's magnetron, fans, and lights. The switch is a crucial electrical component that facilitates the fully automatic operation of preset cooking programs.

Causes of a bad switch can include wear and tear over time or unexpected surges that cause electrical component failure.

Symptoms of a bad switch include:

  • Cooking programs failing to advance properly or stopping mid-cycle unexpectedly
  • The microwave failing to turn on or experiencing power issues
  • Random noises, humming, or lights occurring when the microwave is supposed to be idle
  • Buttons or controls acting intermittently unresponsive

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

Tuoya, The part number for the microwave cavity light bulb is WPW10440740. To replace the bulb, in most cases you can remove the control panel, and have access to the bulb. "1. Disconnect the electrical power to the microwave/oven combination. 2. Open the lower oven door. 3. Remove the bottom screw from each of the two side trim pieces. 4. To remove the side trim, pull the bottom out approximately 2?, and slide the top down to free it from the control panel. 5. Remove the screws from the oven control panel.6. To remove the oven control panel, pull it out at the bottom, and lift and unhook it from the oven cabinet support at the top. 7. Pull the ground clip on the end of the green wire from the edge of the metal panel, and disconnect the wire connectors from the board. Set the panel face down on a padded surface to protect the finish. 4. To remove the halogen lamp: a) Unclip the wire retainer and remove it. b) Remove the lamp from the holder and remove the wires from the harness." Hopefully you won't have to separate the microwave from the oven assembly. Thanks and Good Luck

James, Since it appears you're working on the microwave portion of the wall oven, a loss of power due to an open fuse, power leg or cavity TCO is the most common issue with this style oven. Main control boards don't fail all that often, but it does occurr. Repairing a printed circuit board is not reccomended, by the manufacturer, and would be an awesome chore for a DIY'r. Good Luck and Thanks

Jim Mills for Model Number KEMC308SS01

Hello,I had a bulb go out in the microwave portion of the combo. I replaced the bulb per the manual. The old bulb was bad, I checked it with an ohm meter. Put everything together and still no light and now a "door" message on the display. Ok, pulled the microwave again and checked all three door switches with my ohm meter and all check good. I went ahead and replaced them anyway. In addition I checked them in position by opening and closing the door. All looks good. Problem is I still have the "door" message and no light. I have checked the fuses with an ohm meter and they are also ok. What do you suspect is the problem and what should I check next? Thank you in advance!

Jim, The cavity light not working, and the "door" in the display, indicates there is no 120 VAC to the control board. Heres some help, be careful, these are live voltage checks : At the red wire on the primary door switch, there should be 120 VAC to chassis ground, with the power applied to the oven, No voltage would indicate an open fuse, cavity thermal cut out, or broken wire. No 120 VAC at P 8 pin 1 (black) wire, door closed would be a bad door switch or broken wire. No 120 volts at p10 pin 1 (brown) wire, door open would be a bad door switch or broken wire(these checks are at the main control board and made to chassis ground) if voltages are proper you'd have a bad control board. Thanks and Good Luck
