For Whirlpool Refrigerator Door Switch (Part Number: OEM20679945)

Carlos for Model Number Amana ARB9059CS

How do I remove the light switch for the top refrigerator section (not freezer) on the Amana ARB9059CS? The video and instructions you have seem to suggest it can just be "pulled out". But if I don't recall wrong it seems like in my fridge the switch is under that entire top assembly, and the entire assembly needs to be removed in order to gain access to the switch. I can not check the fridge right now, but that is what I remember. Do you have the instructions on how to remove that entire top section assembly? Thanks!

Carlos, You would need to remove the assembly to get the light switch out. Here are the instructions on doing so: 1. Carefully pry with taped putty knife, pry the front of the light bulb assembly to release tabs. 2. The whole light assembly will drop down. 3. Disconnect the wiring to the light switch. 4. Squeeze tabs on back side of switch to release it from assembly.

Jim, You would take the screws out of the duct assembly and once out you will roll the bottom part out and will be able to access the light switch to remove.

Frank, There should be 2 screws that hold the plate in place where the light switch would go. You would remove the 2 screws and pull the assembly down.

Charlene, The most common issue for your style refrigerator and this type complaint is a faulty "auto damper" WP61005993. The flapper door "sticks" and won't allow the air to flow properly. Of course you've already checked both door seals for proper closure and seal, and check the air return cover WP61006081 flapper to make sure it is opening and closing freely

Steve for Model Number GS6SHEXNQ00

I pulled the door switch and found 110 vac on one terminal, voltage goes through switch, but doesn't go to module plug in ceiling of bow where Temp. Control Board plugs in. No clue how a wire in the fridge can just go bad. It all started when I opened the fridge, light flickered and heard what sounded like a relay clicking. Closed the door switch and it all stopped. Now no lights come on when you open the door, but fridge seems to be operating properly. Now I'm really confused.

Steve, You will want to check at the main control board on the P2 connector pin 3 to ground and to neutral to see if you have voltage. It sounds like the problem may be in the control board WPW10135090. If no power then the control board is defective and needs to be replaced. Otherwise it would be a wiring issue.

Hello Cristy, What you would want to check is to make sure that the latch, lever WP3368954 is not broken or cracked. Also check the latch bolt WP3380854 and check wiring. You also want to make sure that there are not cracks in the door liner around the latch assembly and check for loose screws.

Hello John. The door switch W11384469 has a "clip", which is visible on the page showing the part. I use a paint scraper as this displaces the pressure so you're less likely to damage the liner during the removal process. Be sure to turn the power off to the unit or simply unplug it. Hook the paint scraper under the side that has the large clip on it and pry it carefully out. The 2 wires on the old switch connect to the new switch.
