For Whirlpool Refrigerator Door Switch (Part Number: OEM20679945)

Diy Widow for Model Number GD5NHAXMB00

I have taped the light switch down for the last year because when it toggled when the door opened, there would be a tictok continuous sound and the thermometer control settings would flicker or not be on at all. I just pulled (after unplugging unit) the switch from it's insert but did not disconnect anything and then reinstalled it and plugged it back to the wall recepticle. I noticed that the light worked as well as the thermostat control!! I closed the door and reopened but then it returned to tiktoc continous sound and thermostat control numbers flickering, but the frig light was on just fine. I am ordering a new switch but is the thermostat number lights a seperate issue???

DIY widow, based on the information provided, either there is a wire issue or a control failure. The main control WPW10135090 would need to be tested for 120VAC from the yellow wire at connection P2 pin 3 to the white wire at connection P1 pin 3 when the door is open. If there is continuous voltage, the wires in the liner are good and the voltage output to the user control 2304102. At connection P4 of the main control, there should be 5V from the tan/white wire at pin 1 to the black/white wire at pin 3. If there is continuous voltage, the user control has failed. If there is not, the main control has failed. Unfortunately, both control boards have been discontinued by the manufacturer and are no longer available.

Al, it would be recommended that the bulbs are checked to ensure they are tightened fully into the outlets. If the bulbs are secured fully, then the door switch W11384469 would be the only possibility and may not be making full contact in the switch.

Jim, The light in the top of the refrigerator has a control board in it and changes the voltage input to a DC output. So the solid yellow wire and the white wire is the 120 vac input and the other 2 wires is the 14 vdc output. the other lights only have 14 vdc going to them so probably test the light in the top of the refrigerator first.

Paul, If the control for the dispenser is not working at all then this would most likely be the main control board that is faulty.

Hello Helena, The sound is probably a relay on the control board 2255233 which is failing to pass the voltage. I'm sorry but this part has been discontinued by the manufacturer and no satisfactory substitutions have been provided. You may be able to contact a company like Corecentric Solutions 866-737-2244/ corecentricsolutions.com to see if they support the board. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Steve, that switch is difficult to remove, there is one side that has a tab that needs to be pushed in to remove. Be careful that you do not pull the wires off of the switch, there is not much slack in the wires. Make sure you unplug the refrigerator when working on the switch.

David, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty main control board W10219463 and unfortunately the board has been discontinued by the manufacturer with no suitable replacement available. You could try to send the board off to be repaired.
