The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. It is designed to secure the washer door during operation, ensuring it remains closed and locked. This assembly is crucial for the safe and effective operation of the washing machine, preventing the door from opening mid-cycle, which could result in water leaks and interruptions.

You should replace the door latch assembly if it becomes faulty. Causes of a bad door latch assembly can include regular wear and tear, damage from forceful closing or opening, or electrical issues within the latch mechanism. A malfunctioning door latch can prevent the washer from operating correctly.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer door not latching or locking properly
  • The washing machine not starting or stopping mid-cycle
  • Error codes related to door lock issues
  • Difficulty in opening or closing the door

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Ralph, The F22 error code is a door lock error. You will want to check to make sure that there is power going to the door lock from the control board and if there is then replace the door lock assembly and if there is not then replace the control board. For the dryer you will want to test the thermal fuse to make sure that it has not blown, which would be the most likely cause for this issue.

Jenny, Based on the error code, the F1 E1 error is a pump driver/main relay/EEPROM error. You will want to check to make sure that the power cord is not loose which would cause line interference and could cause the issue. Make sure that the washer is on a designated circuit. Make sure that the wire harness connections to the main board are not broken or detached Make sure all green ground wires are not broken or detached. Make sure that the 2 ground switches are pressed properly by the toe and rear panels. Make sure that all connectors are fully seated. If all this checks ok then most likely the control board has failed.

Lila, The F73 error code is not a valid code for this model. With this error code it would be a corrupted board and you would need to replace the main control board.

Irene, The door lock could very well be the issue with the unit giving the f22 error code. You will want to check the connections at the control board and door lock to make sure that they are not corroded and have a good connection. If this checks ok then the door lock would most likely be the cause of failure.

Jacob N for Model Number WFW9150WW01

We have been battling with this for a while now. Long story short, we have replaced the drain pump, CCU, and cold water valve inlet and nothing has worked. Going back to the what was causing the problem is the locking mechanism. The manual for our Whirlpool Duet states that at the onset of a cycle, the door lock "will lock, unlock, and lock again" and this is "normal." Currently, the door locks and gets stuck (no cycle will start) and the door will not open (via restart/add a garment) unless the manual string is pulled. If I unplug the machine and plug it back in fairly quickly, this seems to bypass something where the water fills but this is as far as the machine will advance. Drain pump works because the machine will drain if I change the cycles from hot to cold or vice versa. So the question I have is: is this piece the most likely culprit causing the cycle from occurring? Is there something else that could be causing this that I am overlooking?

Jacob, With what has already been done with the unit and the door locking but not unlocking, the problem with the unit would come down to a faulty door latch assembly.

Kevin, Before just replacing the lock assembly you will want to check to see if there is any physical damage to the lock assembly. Check the wire connections from the door lock and the Control board do not have corrosion that could keep them from making good contact. If so then try cleaning with a contact cleaner. If they check ok then make sure that they are properly seated. Check the continuity of the harness. If the continuity test fails then the harness would need to be replaced. If it checks ok then you would want to replace the lock assembly.
