The Timer is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It controls the electrical components and the timing of the dryer cycles, ensuring that clothes are dried for the appropriate amount of time.

Over time, timers can become faulty due to normal wear and tear, electrical surges, or internal mechanical failure. If the timer motor fails or the contacts inside the timer wear out, it will no longer be able to accurately regulate the dryer’s cycle duration.

Symptoms of a bad timer include:

  • Dryer not starting
  • Dryer running continuously without advancing through the cycle
  • Dryer stopping mid-cycle
  • Inaccurate cycle times

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Part Number: OEM18049614)

Mark, as the timer will advance until the cool down in both the timed and auto cycles, the failure would most likely be in the timer WPW10185982 itself.

Charles, This issue would most likely be caused by a faulty timer since it works on some heat settings but not high.

Bobby, Yes a defective timer can keep the dryer from starting. But your first checks should be at the outlet, make sure you have 220 VAC, check across the two outside terminals of the terminal block for 220 VAC. Then check the thermal fuse on the blower housing for a closed circuit and then the belt and belt switch for a closed circuit and damaged wiring or a broken belt. These are the more "common" problem when a Whirlpool dryer won't start or run.

Barry, You will want to check the venting of your unit to make sure that the issue is not with the venting being clogged. For the issue with the timer not lining up it would most likely be a timer issue.

Alex, You will want to check from the A terminal (Red wire) to B terminal (Light blue) for 120 vac with the unit set for high heat or timed dry. If there is not proper voltage then the timer is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Mike, I believe your model should read TEDS740PQ0. The timers for the two models are different and we can not guarantee they would be interchangeable. Sorry!

Hello Dick. Try turning the drum as you press the button with the door switch taped closed. If the unit starts and runs, the motor is bad and will need to be replaced. If the buzzing is from the timer, it may be bad. Also, make sure the door switch and thermal fuse is good on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
