Manufacturer Part Number: WPW10175553

This mechanical cycle timer controls the sequence and duration of washer operations. Replacing a failing timer restores proper advancement through fill, agitate, drain, and spin so cycles complete reliably with accurate timing. What it does:

  • Advances the washer through each step by routing power to the water valves, motor, and drain pump at the correct times
  • Sets the length of each stage for consistent operation
  • Common failure signs: cycle won't advance or stops mid-cycle
  • Timer knob doesn't move or must be jiggled to run
  • Skips functions (no agitate, drain, or spin) while others still work
What's included:
  • 1 mechanical timer assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; access the timer from the control console
  • Take photos or label wires; transfer them to the new timer one at a time to maintain correct positions
  • Reuse the existing knob and dial; align the timer shaft properly and secure the mounting screws
  • After reassembly, run a short test cycle to ensure proper advancement

1 Answer

Wilbur, This unit only has a one speed motor on it and would most likely be an issue with the timer on the unit.

Britches, If there is no power getting to the water valve then check to make sure that the pressure switch is getting power to it. If there is power to the pressure switch then this will be a faulty pressure switch.

Richard, You will want to check the inlet screens to make sure that they are not clogged as there could be a issue with the cold supply line being clogged on the valve. if this checks ok then the most likely issue will be the pressure switch or hose.

Vicki, You will want to check the screens on the water valve to make sure that the screens are not clogged. If the screens look good then you will want to turn the power on to the unit and test for 120 vac to the water valve. If the water valve is getting 120 vac to it then the issue will be the water valve. If there is not 120 vac to it then the issue will be the timer.

Hello Mike. That is the design of this washer and there is nothing you can do to correct the issue. Any unit with the dual pressure switches is designed to work this way. Thank you.

Jesscc for Model Number WTW5200VQ2

My washer's cold water will not fill on any wash cycle, added cold water manually by pouring water in while on delicate cycle it would agitate but when it got to rinse cycle would not fill with cold water and so I did it manually then it wouldn't do anything and I turned it to normal cycle rinse with water still filled for load size which was small and it would continue. I also tried it in causal cycle and it would continue...is it the timer? Thanks

1 Answer

Hello Jesscc, it sounds more like the water inlet valve is the problem more so than the timer. There are two solenoids on the valve, one for the hot and one for the cold. It sounds as though the cold one is the problem. The part # is WPW10144820. Also make sure the inlet screen on the cold side of the old valve is clean along with the filter screen on the fill hose where it attaches to the faucet is also clean. Rarely does the timer cause the issue you're describing.

Hello Alex. When you replace the pressure switch, you need to replace the hose and blow into the air dome to make sure it is not clogged on the unit. This is a switch failure.

Jack, Yes the issue should be in the timer WPW10175553 One or more of the timer contacts is damaged and not supplying the 120 VAC to the capacitor. 49 volts is not enough power to turn the motor, so it hums.
