This mechanical cycle timer controls the sequence and duration of washer operations. Replacing a failing timer restores proper advancement through fill, agitate, drain, and spin so cycles complete reliably with accurate timing. What it does:

  • Advances the washer through each step by routing power to the water valves, motor, and drain pump at the correct times
  • Sets the length of each stage for consistent operation
  • Common failure signs: cycle won't advance or stops mid-cycle
  • Timer knob doesn't move or must be jiggled to run
  • Skips functions (no agitate, drain, or spin) while others still work
What's included:
  • 1 mechanical timer assembly
Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; access the timer from the control console
  • Take photos or label wires; transfer them to the new timer one at a time to maintain correct positions
  • Reuse the existing knob and dial; align the timer shaft properly and secure the mounting screws
  • After reassembly, run a short test cycle to ensure proper advancement

For Whirlpool Timer (Angled Sequence) (Part Number: OEM18048939)

Hello Hayworth, This will be a clogged pressure switch hose or a defective pressure switch. I cannot provide part numbers without a valid model number. I think the one you listed is probably a Kenmore model number but there are digits missing, probably the three before the "." since Sears decided to put the first three characters before it and in many cases, in a different font.

LJH, Without knowing the model number we would not be able to get an exact time that the unit should spin. The issue could be that there is a clogged drain pump that is not allowing the water to spin out all the way. If the timer is advancing too quickly this would cause the unit to not spin long enough. The spin cycle should last around 7 to 9 minutes. If it were the clutch it would not spin at all.

Xtera, You will want to check to make sure that the pressure hose is not kinked or clogged. If the pressure hose or air dome are clogged this will cause the unit to agitate immediately.

Hello Bill. With the knob pushed in, you will hold the clip on the back of the timer WPW10175553 and pull outward on the timer knob while holding the clip. The knob will pull off the shaft. If you do not hold the clip, the knob will not pull off the shaft. Hope this helps.
