This refrigerator defrost timer automatically starts and ends the defrost cycle to melt frost from the evaporator coils. Replacing a failed timer restores consistent cooling performance and helps prevent frost buildup that can restrict airflow.

  • Controls the timed switch between cooling and defrost to keep evaporator coils clear of frost
  • Common symptoms of failure: heavy frost on the evaporator or back panel, fresh food section too warm, unit runs constantly, or won't resume cooling after defrost
  • Restores proper frost removal and airflow for stable temperatures
  • Designed to match the original timer's function and wiring connections for applicable models
What's included: Defrost timer Install notes:
  • Disconnect power before servicing; wear cut-resistant gloves
  • Access location varies by model—often in the fresh food control housing or rear machine compartment
  • Photograph/label wire positions and transfer them to the matching terminals on the new timer
  • Reuse original mounting hardware and install in the same orientation as the original

Greg, Unfortunately we do not have any wiring information for this product but the wires should have connected in the identical fashion as the original. The manufacturer does not supply any wiring information to us for this unit.

Tony, It sounds like the control board may have been set on a defrost cycle and normally within 30 minutes the unit will kick on. If this did not happen then most likely the control board may be defective and need to be replaced. Also check the relay on the compressor to make sure that it is not bad. You can pull the relay and shake it and if it rattles then it is bad.

I'm on timer #4 now. I'm not buying another one of these Invensys timers-they are obviously junk. Took one apart and the resister for the motor coil hardly registered-obviously allowed too much current into the motor and burned it out-AGAIN. There is no problem with power supply. ANY mainstream consumer timer will work, but I dont want to have to deal with spicing-etc. I need a timer that 1)is NOT manufactured by Invensys, 2)has the same pin configuration/canon plug, 3)will last longer than 6 months (Invensys GV-3001-00 1/3hp/12hr part#3-81329)

Hello Mike. Sorry, we can only recommend the manufacture replacement part for the unit. They do not offer any other brands. Thank you.

Bill, You would not want to use a timer that will stay in defrost longer as it could damage the unit. If the timer that you have is a 8 hr 7 min timer it just means that it goes into defrost every 8 hrs and stays on for 7 minutes. If you have another timer that is a 7 minute timer then it will work. You just do not want to extensively extend the length of time between defrosts.

Hello. So the freezer just quit a few days ago...no signs of ice or anything cold. Condenser fan and other fans were running, but not the compressor. Thought it was the relay at first as capacitor tested ok on an analogue ohm meter...replaced the relay to no avail. Still seems weird to me that the condenser fan would be on--and not the compressor--but I went ahead and started looking at the defrost timer. It is cycling fine between terminals 1 & 2 and 1 & 4, but it is continually showing open between terminals 1 & 3 (also open between 2 & 4). I went ahead and cycled it into the compressor on state (continuity between terminals 1 & 4) and am hoping to see the compressor come on. I'm not sure I'm on the right track though.

Hello Jim, It sounds like your defrost heater is touching ground causing it to trip breaker.
