For Whirlpool Dial (Part Number: OEM18026661)

Johnna Randolph for Model Number Kenmore Top Load Washer Model #11018522790

25 year old washer...lid lock had come apart...pulled cabinet and zip tied the part back together. Once reassembled tested the washer to make sure it was working properly. Once it filled and agitated it would not advance to drain and spin even using a screw driver to depress the lid lock indicator (it would previously by using a screw driver to depress the lid lock) Timer knob engages and I can advance to a different wash selection, but when off (timer knob pulled out( the timer knob is free spinning both directions. What did I break?

David, You will need to access the control panel and on the back of the timer there is a pin inside the timer that you need to pull out. Once this is done you should be able to remove the knob and skirt.

Hello Palletpoppop, This can be a poor connection, a failed component that has prevented the timer from getting voltage to the timer motor so it can advance, or a failed timer motor.

Hello James, If the unit sits there for a few minutes and you hear a click, the motor is overheating and tripping out the overload. If this is the case, check for a loose connection to the capacitor. If the connections are good, check for more than one wire to the motor in the motor harness that is carrying 120Vac. This can be caused by a bad timer, a bad fabric selector switch (speed selector switch), a shorted harness, or a bad winding in the motor. If the motor will do the spin when the drain pump is off of the motor and the lid switch is bypassed, the issue is something inside the drain pump, binding it so the motor cannot turn in that direction. If it still will not turn and the motor will spin when off of the unit in the floor, (and the lid switch is bypassed), the issue could be an item between the tubs, a bad brake assembly, or a bad clutch assembly. This will just have to be searched for since it can be caused by multiple causes.
