  • Knob doesn't advance or must be manually turned to proceed between steps

  • Disconnect power before servicing; turn off water if you'll be moving hoses
  • Access through the control console; photograph wiring and transfer connectors one at a time to matching terminals

  • Reassemble the console and run a test cycle to proper advancement

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Timer (Washer, Mallory) (Part Number: OEM18026637)

Hello Rick. No, the pump attaches to the motor, so if the motor is turning, so is the pump. It has to be clogged or the pump is stripped out if the unit is spinning. If the unit agitates during the spin, then it could be the timer or the motor that is bad.

Rambo, Are you sure you checked the lid switch circuits and wiring back to the timer, and the plastic actuator on the washer lid WP358684 and made sure the lid switch assembly 3949247V is properly mounted and secured to the top of the washer ? If so, then you'll need to unplug the power cord, set the timer to the final spin / drain and pull out the knob. and check for the appropriate "closed" contacts (filled in black area of timer cycle chart). ie: You'd need to check for a "closed" Circuit between the gray and black wires from the lid switch at the timer block terminal.

Dorene for Model Number LSR8433KQ0

My washer stops after each cycle and I have to advance it to the next. When it gets to the rinse cycle it does not drain. I am unable to get it to drain, unless I sit there and play with it forever. Once I am able to get the washer to drain, I then have to set it at the rinse cycle and it will finish the cycle without a problem. What's up with that?? We checked the lid switch and it is good. Does my washer just need a timer control, or does it need something else?

Dorene, It still sounds like there's an issue in the lid switch assembly 3949247V or the wiring. Before you replace the timer, you may want to check the actuator and switch assembly to make sure there are no loose mounts or screws and the wiring at the switch assembly and timer are not loose. Then replace the timer WP3948852 if all checks OK.

Hello Erik! Unfortunately, we do not have a how-to video on the timer WP3948852. Remove the timer dial and timer knob. On your model you will either have screws on each side of the panel or clips on the bottom of the panel beneath the panel and on top of the cabinet you will release. Unscrew the screw holding the timer in place on the console. Once the screws are removed/clips are released lift the console back. Remove wiring. You will then install in reverse order. Hope this helps!
