1 Answer Hi John. Most likely your fabric softner cup has old fabric softner. It will age and turn from blue to green, brown and then black. It will be all under the cap and leak under the agtitator. The cup replacement part # is 215733. Thank you. Read More...
Cathy July 11, 2011 for Model Number LAT8426AAE When my washer gets to the spin cycle, it runs but does not spin. I went through the trouble shooting process and the results said it's either the clutch, transmission, or both. What do you think the problem is? My machine is 13 years old. Will it be worth fixing? Thank you!!
1 Answer Hi Cathy. We will try our best to help. After removing the front panel, you can access the top. Unclip the top tub cover and use a flashlight to see if there are any wrinkled up clothes stuck in between your inner and outer tub. This will stop the tub. Then are your belts burning, and if so why? Remove your belts and spin the motor and pump. Is either one of them frozen? When you rotate the main pulley counterclockwise does the brake release and allow the tub to turn also. I hope this helps. Thank you. Read More...
Mom Me June 09, 2011 for Model Number Maytag Model A8520 My transmission does not agitate during the wash cycle. I replaced the fan belts as suggested. It worked for a few washes, but now doesn't. It spins in one direction o.k., but doesn't agitate, the fan belt burns and I have to turn it off and skip that cycle. Does the transmission need replacing or can I just replace certain parts. Thank you.
1 Answer Hello, lean the machine back and remove the belt. Hand turn the pulley in the wash direction, one direction will make the entire tub spin and the other direction should turn the agitator. If it locks up instead of turning the agitator, you will need to replace the transmission 134737100. Thanks! Read More...
Daniel May 16, 2011 for Model Number LAT3500AAE The top shaft in the transmission comes up and the agitator stops working. Can this be fixed or is a new transmission needed? Thanks

Brent May 04, 2011 for Model Number MAYTAG LSE7806ACE WASHER DRYER COMBINATION I have an older Maytag washer/dryer combo in my condo. The washer fills, agitates and drains with no problem. But when the spin cycle kicks in, I can see that the drive belt does not turn and I smell the main drive belt burning. I am guessing that the fast spin gear in the transmission is locked up and will need to be replaced. Please let me know what you think the problem is...thanks.
1 Answer Hello Brent. You will need to check the brake assembly and make sure it is releasing when the unit goes into spin. If not, you will need to replace the brake assembly WP6-2011900. Hope this helps. Read More...
Urs April 16, 2011 for Model Number LAT8705AAE Washer makes loud squeeks during the spin cycle. A final Squeek also happens when it brakes. The squeeks generally are worst, loudest and most continuous when the spin is at top speed. When I push the tub around with the washer open, I can get the squeeks to stop during spin, but they come back when I let go. I already replaced both belts.
1 Answer Urs, Sounds like you have a couple of problems, the squeak at the end of the cycle, indicates a bad/dry brake shoe lining, if the brake is extremely dry it could also be the cause of the squeak during the spin cycle.WP6-2011900 the other squeak in the spin cycle could be a set of bad tub bearing and seals 6-2040130 and 6-2095720 Good Luck Read More...
David April 09, 2011 for Model Number LAT9400AAL I have a bumping noise when my washer agitates... Took the front panel off and the noise seems to be coming from the transmission assembly. I can feel the thump on the assembly each time it changes directions. The machine looks new underneath no leaks or residue. What might the problem and solution be? Thanks in advance for your assistance, David
1 Answer Hello David! Check the clutch system and make sure that it is not loose. Make sure that the clog is positioned correctly. If these are good you will need to replace the transmission 6-2097750. Thanks. Read More...
Polly April 08, 2011 for Model Number A9400 Good Morning, I hope this note finds you smiling! I have loved my Maytag washer and dryer for the past 19 years and now, like my 14 year old dog, I am aware it is thinking of leaving me. I had the dryer rebuilt several years ago and it is still performing great. BUT.. the washer is leaking oil (transmission?) and has been for quite a while now. The oil is yellow in color and is primarily on the right underside. Paying for a "pro" to repair wouldn't be a wise move considering the age of the machine and I am thinking of trying to do the repair myself. Depending on if this is actually the problem, do you think it is a very smart move. Our local merchant who we have been dependent on for over twenty years now charges a "trip" fee along with the house call so just to find out what the problem is would be about 75.00. Then would be the time and materials. I love my washer, don't need all the bells and stuff on the new models and am a bit shy on funds at this time of year!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
1 Answer Polly. Good News, it's not likely the transmission leaking oil. That lubricant, is a very dark, sticky, and smelly. You likely have residual tub bearing oil running down the inside of the cabinet. It usually doesn't take 14 years to become visible. You can remove the front panel and wash the residual oil off the interior of the cabinet. Lean the machine back and wash the dripping oil off the lip of the outer cabinet rolled edge. Just be very careful around the sharp edges and screws. You'll be fine, Good Luck and Thanks Read More...
Nancy S March 29, 2011 My washer would not spin or drain water. We replaced a belt, so now it goes through all the cycles, but still will not drain water and smells like something burning and there is water under the washer. Help
1 Answer Hello Nancy. It sounds like the tub bearing may be bad. You will need to check and see where the water is coming from. If it's from the bottom of the tub where the shaft enters the tub, then the bearing is bad. Hope this helps. Read More...
Pat March 28, 2011 for Model Number LAT2300AAE My washing machine is almost 10 years old and it is not spinning. I replaced the belts but now I think it is the transmission. If I replace the transmission, do I also have to replace the brake/clutch?
1 Answer Hello Pat! You should not have to replace the brake/clutch when replacing the transmission 6-2097750 unless it has become defective. Thanks! Read More...
