The Washer Filter Plug Kit is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool washing machines. This kit includes the necessary components to seal the filter housing and prevent leaks, ensuring that the washer operates efficiently. The filter plug helps to maintain the proper water flow and filtration within the washer, preventing debris from clogging the system and ensuring clean and effective washing cycles. The kit includes 4 plugs and replaces the round filter under the basket.

Over time, the filter plug can become worn or damaged due to continuous exposure to water, detergent, and the mechanical stress of the wash cycles. Improper installation or accidental impact during maintenance can also cause the plug to fail. These issues can lead to leaks and reduced efficiency of the washing machine.

Symptoms of a bad washer filter plug include:

  • Water leaking from the bottom of the washer
  • The washer not draining properly
  • Visible cracks or damage to the filter plug
  • Excessive noise during the wash cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Ari for Model Number LSQ9564JQ0

My washer always comes out with clothes full of dust/ lint. I tried washing it various ways but figured it was the washer filter. I followed the first part of the video posted on YouTube on how to install the filter plugs, but then once I uncovered the part where the filter plugs would go, instead of empty holes I saw these holes that had metal plating similar to the way these filter plugs were designed. It wasn’t possible for me to install the plugs. Does my washer need plugs? If not, would you possibly know why my washer has been coming out with so much lint? Thanks.

1 Answer

Ari, This unit would not use filter plugs and the most likely cause of the washer leaving dust and lint would be that it needs to be cleaned. You can use affresh washer cleaner W10549845.

Anabel, the filter plug kit 285868 is indeed used with your model per the manufacturer. The filter plugs should fit snugly. In regards to lint, detergent use can influence lint occurrence based on how much is used. Generally, excessive lint is caused by using too much detergent based on the amount of soil on the clothes being washed at a given time as well as how long of a wash cycle is selected.

Keith A. for Model Number 6ALSR7244MW0

I am in Australia & watched your video on changing the washer filter plug (lint) in a Whirlpool Washer. When I investigated parts here I had trouble getting the washer filter plug kit. I was wondering if you ship to Australia & how much it would cost, & also I might look at changing the Agitator repair kit (#285811) as well as the bolt (#539455) that holds the agitator in position. Any information you could give me would be appreciated. Kind regards PS those part numbers are what I found in Australia so I'm not sure if yours would be the same

Hello Keith, I'm sorry but we are only able to ship inside the United States at this time. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Zoe for Model Number LSC8244EQ1

I ordered this set of 4 lint filters #285868 for my Whirlpool washing machine LSC8244EQ1. I removed the agitator and the ordered plastic filters would not fit into the 4 holes of my machine. The plastic filters are too tall, so they would not snap or even sit on the holes because the machine's filter holes seem to have a silverish metal thing on the base with grooves, and not have enough height to allow the filters to sit in them. How do I get the plastic filters to fit in them? Do I need the plastic filters at all? How do I fix my lint problem if the machine already has the "metal filter" underneath? Please reply on all. Need help desperately.

1 Answer

Zoe, we are not familiar with "a silverish metal thing on the base with grooves", in the spin basket. As stated " The plugs are installed on the lower portion of the spin basket, with the tabs facing the neck of the basket. The plugs should snap into place. Do not force them into the opening. On those baskets requiring two (2) plugs, do not attempt to force the additional plugs into the smaller two (2) holes." Based on the manufacturer's service and parts library, your model washer was not produced with "the metal filter" underneath the spin basket(it wasn't metal, it was a "plastic" composite). Lint filters in washing machines have pretty much been eliminated, but it's a matter of opinion whether they are needed or not. Most linting problems are due to a "Usage" issue. Make sure you're loading the washer properly, overloading increases the probability of lint because the clothes can't circulate properly and "rub" together and produce lint. Do not do "mixed Loads" as Certain articles will produce lint and certain articles may attract lint. Make sure you're using the proper amount of detergent for the load size and degree of soil, as well as the proper water temperature for the articles being laundered. The detergent needs to remove the soil, lint, etc. from the articles, "float" the residue to the top of the water so when the tub begins to spin the lint, debris is extracted and suspended between the tubs and washed out through the drain pump and drain hoses and pipes.

Dana, I believe this could be the filter plate and would have to be removed from beneath the tub.

Mario, Your washer does not have a "filter" system of any type or kind. The inner basket is designed with "slots near the center of the basket, these will direct any lint or debris into the outer tub and when the washer drains and spins, any lint or debris will be flushed from the washer tub and the drain. You may want to consider the 367031 / 367031 drain protector kit, or a "universal" type kit similar to it, to assist in keeping the drain system clear and clog free. Thanks,

Michael, Yes the washer will operate properly without the filter plate installed. In fact the filter plate has been discontinued by the manufacturer, and replaced by the 285868/ 285868 Filter Plug Kit. If you have the openings in the bottom of the tub, under the agitator, you may want to install the filter kit, but you don't "have" to. Thanks,
