The Lid Switch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This safety feature is designed to prevent the washer from operating when the lid is open. It ensures that the spinning cycle can only commence once the lid is securely closed, protecting users from potential injuries.

Over time, the lid switch assembly can fail due to normal wear and tear, accidental damage, or from being tampered with.

Symptoms of a bad Lid Switch Assembly include:

  • The washing machine does not start or stops suddenly during the cycle.
  • The washer does not spin, even though it fills and agitates.
  • The machine operates regardless of the lid's position, indicating a bypass or failure in the safety mechanism.

This OEM Whirlpool part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper and some Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Lid Switch Assembly (Part Number: OEM18026649)

Steve for Model Number 110.22422100

Hi. A friend contacted me about a problem with their washer. It's a Kenmore, front-loader. When I asked them to describe the problem they had, I received this response: The lid on this Kenmore model has to be closed in order for the washer to switch to the spin cycle. The problem is the lid swtich which I had to put a lot of pressure on and then the rinse and spin cycle came on....drained the soapy water and filled it with clean water to begin the rinse cycle. I tried to tighten the two screws that hold it and found out that they were loose to begin with and the plastic piece from underneath had fallen into the washer which I found later on after I emptied the washer. I don't hear the lid switch click as I raise & lower the lid, therefore, I totally think it is the lid switch that is causing the problem. Could you please help me identify how to determine if the lid switch is in fact the problem? TYIA.

Hello Danny, You should remove the hose from the outer tub and check for debris/article of clothing that could be obstructing the tub opening. If nothing is located there you may have to pull the inner tub to make sure nothing is in there. You should also check the drain line from the pump out to the standpipe.

Teddy B for Model Number Kenmore Washer Model 11027822790

While we recognize our washer is old, I can't figure why it is not getting the clothes clean anymore, I thought it was because the agitator dogs was bad, as the top agitator was not turning, so I replaced them, it is turning now, but the machine is still not getting the clothes clean as it did before. The upper and lower agitator appears to be working. I can only assume the agitator is still not trashing the clothes around enough. I cannot figure out what the problem is. The are no leaks, excessive noises, rumbling, etc. Any Ideas, thoughts, suggestions? Thanks

Hello Teddy. Check the water valve and make sure your getting both hot and cold water for the unit. If everything is working properly, then it may be the type of detergent your using for the clothing.

Hello John. You will need to use your old screws, but it does have the housing and holes for the screws to go into.
